Adventure Lion (a relatively new alias of mine) - is me, Taylor Mesplé, a prolific recording artist, music producer, songwriter and world traveler known across the world since shortly after I began writing and recording in the early 90’s. A child prodigy musician, I had recorded 50+ albums as an in-demand studio “session” musician before I got my drivers license at age 16. Some have commented that
I have experienced several lifetimes worth of adventures… hence the new alias taking the spotlight as I reinvented myself drastically beginning in 2018. I had always loved taking photos along the way as I partook in truly great and memorable adventures, whether with a disposable analog camera, my iPhone or with a “real” camera later on. Over the years I inadvertently fell in love with the art of photography, especially photographing my stunning girlfriends from an intimate vantage point… and I delved more deeply into the technical side and my own philosophy of making visual art, which always fit nicely with my work creating music and collaborating with artists of many different disciplines. I have always understood any artist intrinsically, I speak their language even if their medium is different than mine. I have always loved to LISTEN with my ears or my eyes or any of my other senses. One of my piano mentors Bruce Hornsby said “Taylor has big ears” for this reason, and I don’t think he was just judging my facial features. I believe that any great art starts by beholding what is already there, seeking to understand and seeking to be moved. The rest is just capturing that magic and sharing it. Alchemy. Transcendence. Inviting someone to step through the proverbial wardrobe door and into another world. Every detail of equipment preferences or technical knowledge is in service to this one central goal and desire. I would much rather see a powerful moment captured with mediocre equipment and technique than a dull moment captured impeccably. Wouldn’t you? Most of my photography centers around beautiful women, who have always motivated and inspired me more than anything. I knew this clearly at a young age as well, as I gladly parted with my daily lunches at age 12 in exchange for an older classmate’s daily offering of clippings from swimwear catalogs… and thusly, my passion for capturing beauty and magic on film was born. I am a passionate and heartfelt lover, a certified relationship coach, actively called a “feminist” by my closest female friends (despite my edgy and overtly sexually charged artistic style), a sensitive empath and a very non-conforming voluntaryist that believes in freedom in every sense of the word, which in my opinion necessitates abandoning the idea that government has ANY sort of righteous “authority” over us whatsoever. I believe this is the only path forward toward a more loving, meaningful, restorative existence as human beings. So I advocate the casting aside of control systems wherever and however a person can, despite the costs involved in leaving the familiar behind. This is my life’s work along with creating a legacy of art that touches hearts, minds and souls. “Terra Incognita” is tattooed proudly on my arm amidst a collage of travel symbolism and mysterious maps. This is Latin for “unknown land”. Onward. As Adventure Lion (but mostly as Taylor Mesplé) I have recorded on over 2500 songs and have performed and/or recorded with most of my very favorite musicians in this world, including some very big stars and childhood heroes. I spend my time creating music, photographs, videos, films, memories, romances and friendships. Since 2017 I live on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA and I love to travel far and wide in search of moving stories, vibrant people, fast cars and motorcycles and open roads to drive them on… and new ADVENTURES of course…. but also fine food, red wine, tequila, coffee and chocolate.
