Andi Olsonawski: The Race Is Won

My dear friend Andi Olsonawski completed her final run today at 2:30 pm. And when you read this, you may very well not know her nor her journey but you probably have someone in your life to whom you can relate...

I could go on for an endless stream as to who Andi Olsonawski was and is, but today I want to share with you who Andi was/is not...

Andi was/is not an imitation. She would be the first person to tell you that you are not to live life in the fashion or shadow of another. She would tell you to be the unique child of Christ that He has called you to be.

Andi was/is not one to complain. She would be the first person to encourage you to not to bemoan the trials and tribulations that Life hands you but to use them aggressively to show the love and purpose of the Creator.

Andi was/is would be the first person to step away from that dark corner of Life and not focus on its losses, but focus primarily on those elements that shine with a silver lining, no matter how faint.

Andi never felt/feels sorry for herself. She would be the first person to chuckle at you if you would feel sorry for her. She and her husband Mark fully understood and understand, as athletes, that Life and its challenges do not come without sacrifice.

And Andi was/is not meant for this world. She knew it and her family over time will realize it also. Her light was so bright and she shared it so much and so well that she eventually ran out of spark... And now it is up to us to carry on the memory and journey of Andi.

My friend, you have similar individuals in your life... their loss is painful. In my case it would be Andi that would remind that it is my responsibility to be my own person for which I was uniquely created, that I must rise above my wounds, that I am allowed to feel sorry for myself ever so briefly and then carry on - each step as a leap of faith. And she would remind, as she does in my heart, that none of us are meant for this place. We are to pray and cheer and celebrate and forgive and hope and search out the heart of Jesus in each individual.

There is a lot of things that Andi was/is not... but she was/is an earthly angel that sought out the heart of Jesus in everyone she encountered. And if you have ten minutes, my friend, enter into the realm of this glorious soul shortly after she was diagnosed five years ago and view this earthly angel I was privileged and humbled to capture.

Godspeed Andi.

MOORHEAD — A beloved mother, a stand-out athlete and a brave fighter is how hundreds describe Andi Olsonawski, a Moorhead mom who continues a years-long cancer battle.

Her husband Mark says the final hours are drawing near for his wife, but right now, she's surrounded by friends and family. That didn’t stop hundreds of people from lining the streets, hoping, praying, singing and offering support for the mother of four.
