Painted this whimsical beetle in my sketchbook while here in the hospital getting treated for severe refractory Raynaud’s via IV infusions. I’m thankful to have Jesus and art to keep me company in the midst of this little bump in the road. I love adding whimsy to paintings…the surreal bits of color and interesting foliage make me smile. And the little beetle that seems to have been tattooed by fairies! Love using metallic and shimmery paints for that extra bit joy.

Started a new tiny sketchbook! It’s only 4x4 inches. This is my first floral in the sketchbook! Love it! The delicate softly curved petals, the depth of the leaves framing it, the spiky center….ahhhhh.

Couple of sketchbook paintings, though I’ve not been feeling great today. My head has felt like I’ve got an ice pick from the base of my skull to just above my eye, brain fog, and my hand has been bothering me. Art helps to distract, because it’s something I love to do to see what I can make! The girl just came out of my head, and found a picture of an old church and decided to see if I could paint it.

Completed sketchbook tour. I started this sketchbook in mid December, and finished it yesterday. I’ve used it to play with different styles of painting and illustration. Some worked and some didn’t. I paint every day, and use a variety of sketchbooks and loose paper. Sketchbooks allow me to be silly and try something new, try color stories, and try ideas from books and tutorials. I consume a lot of art from all kinds of artists as I try to find my place in the art world.

This is the back page of a painting in my sketchbook. You can see some dark spots where ink bled through, so I saved it for the last page. I started out just painting the little squares in the corners. As I was doing that, I thought it reminded me of a wall, and that made me think of drawing this woman sitting on the floor in front of this tile wall. I have now finished this particular sketchbook, which I began using in December. It’s a satisfying feeling to complete a sketchbook! I have not shared all the pages, but I was thinking of posting a short video flip through touring this sketchbook! Some pages were practice pages and some I really love. Would you like to see a flip through of this sketchbook?
