Good candids aren’t accidents. They take patience and anticipation for fleeting moments. You can tell a lot about a photographer through their candids, because those are the moments they were quietly anticipating — the ones they felt with their subjects. Sometimes that comes from their own experiences, sometimes just simple empathy, but it always comes from slowing down and being present. No agenda, no performance. Just standing in the room, fully there, curious about what your subjects are feeling — and ready when it spills over.
