I think a lot of my inspiration comes from wanting to live in two different times at once. I can walk through the mansions in Newport and stare at the portraits for hours. There is something about them that transports you. The scale. The frames. The fact that these faces have lived on those walls for generations. I love all of that…
I also love contemporary art. I love a room that feels collected. Hunt Slonem does this so beautifully in his own homes… the old portraits and antiques mixed with these wildly, colorful, contemporary paintings. The mix of old and new is probably much closer to how I see portraiture living in today’s world, with other pieces that move a person from within. Drop your thoughts below!
