Van Gachnang Photography Are you ready to plan a memorable and exciting elopement day? There are no rules or expectations other than to make it exactly what you want!

Eloping isn't just for couples running away from their families anymore - it has turned into creating a completely intentional wedding day that allows you to focus on the things you love, what you care about, and most importantly, each other. I'm here to help you do exactly that. So get ready to say I do to eloping!

If you’ve ever willingly woken up at 2am to catch a sunrise, if you’ve ever cried over a view that made you feel small (in the best way), if you’ve ever squealed because the light is hitting the earth just right…

We’re probably gonna get along 🤝

This whole job right here? Being an elopement photographer? It all comes back to when I fell in love with the outdoors.

Picture this: 20 year old Van, born and raised in small-town Wisconsin, had never been to the mountains before, heading out on her first cross-country road trip with friends. We drove west for about 15 hours and saw every type of gently rolling hill, farmland, and flat highway imaginable.

And then we saw them. The horizon started to look a little less flat. Tiny mountains off in the distance. It was one of those moments I never want to forget.

I remember playing the game “mountains or clouds?” for the first half of that drive to Oregon, because sometimes the clouds on the horizon really did look like mountains!! 🤪

So once we actually reached the Rockies, I asked myself one last time: “are those mountains or clouds?” 🏔️

That trip planted this seed in my chest, one that grew and grew over a few more years spent in Wisconsin. By the time I was 22, I could feel myself physically aching for more of the outdoors. I worked 3 jobs at once, plus photographed banquet hall weddings on the weekends, saved every penny I could, and started making a plan to move to the PNW in 2014.

And because life doesn’t always pan out the way you want it to, I did some soul searching through living in Oregon, Wisconsin (again), California, and then landed in Washington in 2018.

Once I realized that I could smoosh together my love for the outdoors with my love for wedding photography, everything finally aligned.

It felt like stepping into something that I was built for. It’s the kind of work that fills my cup every single time, and it fuels me in a way nothing else ever has.

And I get to pour aaaaaallllll of that into the days I create with my couples. That’s something I’ll never take lightly.

So hey, hi, and hello. 👋🏻
I’m Van, I’m an adventure elopement photographer, and I’m so, SO stoked you’re here.❤️

The internet has convinced a lot of people that eloping is the easy wedding option.

Elopement.

And honestly, sometimes it really IS that simple.

But a lotttttt of couples (I mean almost every couple) start planning and then realize there are a few things nobody talked about beforehand.

Like the fact that eloping isn’t just the ‘easy’ option.
Or how the moments people end up remembering usually aren’t the ones they planned at all.
Or how some of the best locations will never end up on a “best views in Washington” blog post.

After witnessing countless elopements unfold over the years, I started to notice the same patterns popping up again and again.

Couples discovering the same things halfway through planning and going “oh… nobody told us that😶”

So I put the most common realizations into a lil guide!

It’s called The Elopement Reality Check and it walks through a few things couples are often surprised by while planning.

It’s free (duh). Link is in my bio if you’re interested!

And if you’re currently in the “wait should we actually elope???” stage… this will probably make a few things click for you 😘

👏🏻 Say it with me:

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO CHOOSE YOURSELVES.

It’s quite literally *your* wedding day. Make it about you (and no one else).

If planning for 100+ guests, sharing intimate vows in front of a crowd, or carrying everyone else’s expectations feels overwhelming…

There is another option.

And you don’t have to shrink to fit into it.

🔥 If you could say your vows ANYWHERE in the world, no strings attached, where would you go?

If you want a wedding day that makes you AUDIBLY GASP, I’m def your girl.

I’m committed to:
💃 scouting the spot
💃 tracking the weather
💃 chasing the best light
💃 and then fully short-circuiting the second I see you standing in it

Yep, I will internally be screaming.
No, I will not miss *the* shot 💅

You get the experience of a lifetime.
And I get to dramatically whisper “holy s**t holy s**t holy SH*T” under my breath all day before running over to show you just how incredible you look.

Win win, right?

Elopements aren’t just tiny weddings. They’re layered and emotional, and usually have a hint of unpredictability.

My job is to keep everything steady. To think ahead and protect the feeling of the day.

The photos are the proof…
but the *experience* is the priority🔥

In search of both?
Sounds like we just might be a good fit 💅

I haven’t posted on here in… a while 😅 but photography has grown into my full-time career over the last few years.

I mostly photograph elopements now, running around with couples at sunrise and planning adventure days in wild places. And it's been the *coolest* evolution of this little business.

But for the first time in a long time, I’m doing something local and limited:

🌿 Spring Mini Sessions 🌿

March 15th at Discovery Park in Seattle!

These are short, low-pressure portrait sessions, perfect for couples, families, dog parents, besties, headshots, or just updating your photos without committing to a full session.

I only have 6 of the 10 spots left, so if you’ve ever thought about booking a session with me, now’s the time 💛

Let’s talk about JOY on your elopement day 💛

Not surface-level happiness.
Not the “we smiled for the photo” kind.

I mean the deep, grounded, holy-sh*t-this-is-my-person kind.

The kind where you look at where you’re standing and who you’re with, and then your whole body softens.
The kind where you start laughing mid-vow because you’re overwhelmed in the best way.
The kind where you take a breath and think, oh… this is exactly how it was supposed to feel.

Joy doesn’t have one aesthetic.

For some of you it’s wind in your hair on a cliffside, seeing harbor seals pop their heads out of the water below you.
For some of you it’s slow coffee in a quiet cabin before anyone else is awake.
For some of you it’s blasting music while you get ready and dancing around in socks.
For some of you it’s bringing your dog and letting them get muddy paw prints on the train of your dress. 🐾

The point is not what it looks like.
The point is that you feel it and that you feel it deeply.

So how do you harness it?

✨ Protect your energy. Don’t overpack the day.
✨ Build in space to breathe and actually look at each other.
✨ Choose experiences that feel aligned, not impressive.
✨ Let yourself react naturally. Laugh loud. Cry hard. Be a little unhinged.

Joy lives in the in-between. The hand squeezes. The private jokes. The quiet “we’re really doing this” glances.

And here’s what I care about most:

When it’s real, it shows.

Your shoulders drop. Your eyes get brighter. You lean in without thinking. The laughter hits your whole body. That energy is magnetic and it photographs differently. It feels alive.

I’m not just clicking a camera. I’m watching for the shift. The micro-moments. The way your joy spills over when you forget I’m even there. ✨

Your only job is to be in it.
To choose what feels good.
To let it be big or quiet or weird or tender.

My job? To catch that joy as it’s happening and turn it into something you can hold onto forever.

This day should feel like a full-body yes. And we build it around that 🫶🏻

The secret to the best elopements?
It’s the ones that were created to feel like a Saturday afternoon with your favorite person. Doing the things you already enjoy with zero pressure to go anywhere or be anything.

You in your element.
Just slightly more iconic 💃

The couples I photograph who glow the hardest?
They don’t try to be impressive.
They just lean aaaaaaall the way in.

Cake eaten with chopsticks because that’s how you eat it anyway.
Hopping on bikes and riding around a mountain town.
Log sawing to honor your German roots.
Rock climbing at your fave spot because why wouldn’t you.
Canoeing at sunset because that’s your reset button.
Creating your signature triple decker sandwich for lunch.

Your elopement should feel like you maxed out the authenticity slider.

You don’t need to become a “wedding version” of yourself, babe. You’re already enough.

➡️ Build your day out of the things you already love.

What if I really, really want to elope BUT also love the idea of throwing a little party afterwards to celebrate? Can we do that?

YOU BET YOU CAN 😌

👉🏻 Picture this: You spend your morning together at your dream location, saying private vows as the sun rises. Then, you meet your guests that afternoon for a small ceremony at another amazing spot that they’re all blown away by. You all head back to your AirBNB for drinks, appetizers, and a catered meal, finishing the day by cutting your wedding cake and enjoying the rest of the night as a group.

Pretty damn dreamy, right?

And it’s *so easy* to put together a day like this. One filled with joy, privacy, rest, being surrounded by the people you love, and a shared meal.

Oh, and seeing sneak peek photos ON YOUR ELOPEMENT DAY❗️

You read that right: Photos from your elopement day morning, delivered straight to your phone by the time you sit down for dinner, ready to share with your guests.

Getting to see my couples’ faces light up when they saw their photos for the first time is something that I’ll never, ever forget. 🥹Zooming in, showing their parents, flipping back and forth through them, basking in a preview of what the final gallery will look and feel like.

Elopement receptions can look so many different ways: a potluck-style dinner, a backyard party with music and a food truck, or even a fully catered experience with a bartender, plated meals, and decor handled.

THIS can be your day, just think about that 🫶🏻
