Sadie Cheyenne Art

Sadie Cheyenne Art ✨ Thanks for stopping by! I’m a multidisciplinary artist creating photography, painting, pyrography, and beadwork. Welcome! The dreamer in me fuels my art.

I love exploring color, detail, and a little bit of magic across every medium. Since childhood, I have loved to create things and explore the world around me. Art is something that has always been a constant in my life. Taking portraits of clients and creating paintings are some of my favorite ways to satisfy my artistic hunger. Over the years, I’ve learned that there is a very beneficial relation

ship between my photography and the art I create. My photography betters my art, and my art definitely makes my photography stronger. Photography satisfies my impatient side and my need for immediate results, whereas my art allows me to be intricate and demands patience. In addition to showcasing photography on this page, I share the hand-painted turtle shells I work on. My grandmother on my father's side was 100% Oneida. I am a quarter Oneida. While growing up, my dad occasionally told me bits and pieces about Oneida culture. The sacredness of the turtle came up multiple times. The turtle also represents one of Oneida Nation's three clans. Turtle people are responsible for the environment. When it comes to photography, I have a passion for creating harmony amongst organic landscapes and my subjects, therefore all my portraiture sessions are shot outdoors. I like to incorporate movement into my photographs, so I often ask my clients to act scenes out. For example, I will ask a family to walk toward the camera, holding hands while trying to make each other laugh. My goal is to capture authentic moments laced with emotion. I offer the following sessions: family, engagement, couples, children and infants, individuals and pets/animals. I do not offer wedding photography at this time. Please send me a message or email me at [email protected] for prices and availability. I'm elated to be able to share pieces of my imagination, creativity and attention to detail with you!

This past Saturday, we held the first of two Haudenosaunee beaded picture frame classes through the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Folk & Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program, and it was a wonderful experience! 💜

The day was filled with laughter, creativity, and lots of learning. While not everyone came in with the beading experience we expected, we adapted and spent some time learning rope stitch and other foundational techniques before starting our frames.

I’m grateful to my mentor, Jennifer Jordan, for sharing her knowledge, encouragement, and humor throughout the day, and to everyone who attended for bringing such positive energy to the class. It was especially heartwarming to see participants helping one another and sharing different approaches to beading.

To support everyone between classes, I created a private Facebook group where students can ask questions, share progress, and access step-by-step photos and video tutorials.

One of the goals of the Folk & Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program is to help preserve and pass on traditional arts knowledge, and it was wonderful to see that spirit of learning and sharing throughout the workshop.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful frames continue to take shape during our final class this Saturday! 🪡✨

Yesterday I photographed of some of the goslings at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary! 💛

My husband and I try to go and see them each year. They're always SO f-n cute 🥹! This year I was lucky and got a lot of photos of them drinking from a puddle. A very kind woman and her daughter came and fed them corn right away when we got there, and they all came running 🤩.

I also used a lens I've purposely let sit for a few years because it fell off a shelf a year ago and I've been scared to see if any damage was done 🫣. Judging by the photos I was able to get, I think it's ok 👀. When using this lens, I have to keep a good distance so I can focus, but the depth of field it provides is exceptional. I'm so happy I was able to get these shots 🥰.

This Saturday is the first session of my Haudenosaunee Mini Beaded Picture Frame workshop, and I’m feeling a mix of excitement, gratitude, and nerves. 💜

Even though this is my first time teaching beadwork, I’ve always loved helping and encouraging others creatively. In the past, I taught a painting class and also worked as a Photography Editor in college, where I trained and led a team of photographers each week. I think my biggest strengths as a teacher are patience, warmth, and creating a supportive environment where people feel comfortable learning at their own pace.

This workshop is especially meaningful because it’s full of an amazing group of Oneida women coming together to learn and create through beadwork. My beading mentor, Jennifer Jordan of Jennibeads, and I have spent so much time preparing supplies and carefully putting together the beading kits for everyone. A lot of care and intention went into every detail.

The second workshop session will also be documented by Wisconsin Humanities, which feels really special.

I’m very thankful for this opportunity through the Wisconsin Arts Board's Folk & Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone’s creativity come to life over the next two Saturdays.

I’ll be sharing photos and updates from both workshop sessions afterward. 💜✨

On Sunday night I did a Euphoria themed self portrait shoot! 💫

The makeup and creative lighting from seasons 1 & 2 inspired these photographs. It's been a while since I've challenged myself with a self portrait shoot. I always learn so much during shoots like this.

These images were taken in my basement. I set up my lighting equipment along with a sequins backdrop, put my camera on a tripod and used the timer on my camera. I was literally running back and forth between my chair and my camera dozens of times to get these shots 🥵. And then I had to quickly pose on top of it before the shutter went off. It was a lot of work, but I'm very happy with how the images turned out.

I had fun editing these. My skin is not nearly as nice as it is in these photos (I wish it was 😩) - I smoothed it out to have more of a glowing, ethereal effect.

If you like these, I am uploading more from this set on my Instagram, 😉.

I’m honored to have my piece, The Water Lily Frame, included in the 31st annual Alive in the Arts juried exhibition at the Plymouth Arts Center. 🪷🐸✨

This exhibition marks my 22nd exhibition as an artist and my third exhibition outside of the Green Bay area. Earlier this year, I made it a goal to apply to more juried exhibitions beyond my local community, so this experience felt especially meaningful.

The Water Lily Frame combines a photograph I took on Oneida Indian Reservation with traditional raised beadwork. The photograph is printed on a 5”x7” metal print and surrounded by beadwork designs inspired by water lilies, plant life, and the vibrant colors found within the image itself. Through this piece, I intentionally bring together contemporary photography and traditional beadwork, honoring both the past and present.

This also marks the second juried exhibition for this frame, and I’m incredibly grateful to continue seeing this piece resonate with others.

Thank you to the Plymouth Arts Center, juror Shannon Kupfer, and everyone who attended the opening reception and supported the artists involved in the exhibition. 💚

The exhibition is up through Friday, August 7th.

📍The Plymouth Arts Center is located at 520 E Mill St. Plymouth, WI 53073.

🌷 My husband and I checked out the Tulip Festival today at Blaser's Acres! 🌷 There were about 50,000 fresh tulips to stroll through. Below are some of my favorite shots. I'll be posting more photos on my Instagram page: 😉.

Tulips were my favorite flowers in my teens and 20s. Peonies claimed that spot in my 30s, however, I still find tulips beautiful.

I hope you enjoy the photos!

I’m excited to share this newly finished beadwork set inspired by the magic of the moon. 🌙✨

This one-of-a-kind set features a crescent moon medallion necklace and matching earrings created with raised beadwork on glittery dark jade velvet. The beadwork includes white Charlotte-cut seed beads paired with copper Miyuki galvanized rocailles for added shimmer and texture. The medallion hangs from a braided deerskin lace cord, and both the necklace and earrings are backed with celestial-patterned cotton fabric. The earrings are finished with corrosion- and stain-resistant stainless steel fishhook ear wires.

The earrings are lightweight and measure approximately 2.5” in diameter. The medallion measures approximately 4.75” in diameter with an 18” drop length, sitting below the bust.

Over 50 hours went into creating this piece, and I’m so happy to finally see it complete.

The set is now available on Etsy for $300:
https://www.sadiecheyenneart.etsy.com

For local buyers, the set is available for $250 if purchased directly through me with local pickup (cash or Venmo only). The lower price reflects the removal of Etsy and shipping fees. If you’re interested in purchasing locally, feel free to send me a message. 💫

Thank you all for continuing to support my art and beadwork journey. ❤️

🌙 I just finished up this crescent moon medallion! 🌙

It features raised beadwork on glittery, dark jade velvet ✨. The cord is made of braided deerskin lace. Tonight I'm starting the matching earrings 🌟. The earrings and medallion will eventually be for sale as a set. I love the moon and it inspires so much of my art, so I plan on making myself a set in pink 😊.
