Looking at the bird books, she seems to be either a Hairy or Downy woodpecker — definitely female though due to the absence of a red dot on her head (a mark sported by the males of both those species).

This past Saturday: a tern (a Forster’s Tern?) in West Harbor with the spinnakers of the Saturday races visible in the background.

The second shot was an accidental capture but, as so often happens, it actually contains even more story than the intended shot — in this case, another tern arriving with lunch.
