A double kind of magic happens today.
Seven years of your bright light in this world,
and the front door of the school swings wide,
laughing you into the freedom of June.

​I watch you stand on this beautiful threshold
no longer just a little girl, but a thinker, a creator,
with eyes that see the wonder in the everyday.
Being your stepdad is a gift I get to unwrap every morning,
but this summer holds a special kind of treasure.

​The backpacks are tucked away,
the alarm clocks are quiet,
and the days stretch out before us like an open map.
Just you, Emmett, Briar, and me.

​We have a whole season of bare feet,
sticky popsicle fingers,
and adventures we haven't even dreamed up yet.
I get to be right there for all of it,
watching you lead the way.

​The house feels different when you walk through the door. A sense of calm settles over the rooms, as if the walls themselves know they are finally safe. You carry the weight of so many things on your shoulders, working long hours to build a foundation for this family of eleven, yet you never let the exhaustion dim the way you look at our children.

​Everly, Emmett, and Briar are the mirrors of your patience and your quiet, relentless strength. We see the sacrifices you make, the pieces of yourself you give away so that we can be whole, and we see how you hold this family together when the world feels too fast or too heavy.

​There is a depth to the love you pour into this home that words rarely catch. It is in the small, unseen efforts that go unnoticed by anyone but us, and it is in the grace you carry even on the hardest days. We feel it in every moment, a steady, anchoring presence that makes life feel possible.
