Childhood. Free, raw, unscripted.

This came from a birthday afternoon at in Miami. An absolutely mind blowing space for kids under 5. Or let’s just say, a “bring back the backyard” kind of thing.

You don’t need to interrupt children to get their photo. You don’t need to make them look at you, smile, behave, tilt their heads, stop jumping, start jumping, add to the list of photo annoyances these days _______
You just need to observe and be patient with timing.

The Yellow Couch.

A project I created last year to portrait our life variables within one room, with only one constant - the yellow couch. This series is immensely personal, it represents my desire for an immersive creative space free of screens and filled with books since I moved to the US. It obviously gets messed with a lot, which is the fun part because it shakes my ego and I wouldn’t loose the sarcastic opportunity to be defeated at my own house. It goes without saying, we don’t have much control over dreams we materialize into this world. Imagine, make it happen and let it go.

More coming soon!

It’s been a minute. I created a space to reconfigure from past events and darn was that helpful. I believe in silence. The type in which you can hear yourself. I like quiet of mornings, although they are much louder than my taste. Not that I’m opposed to sounds, but shutting down external extra noise of any sort (visual, sensorial, auditive) has a tremendous effect on listening to your soul. It’s about selecting what comes in.

This isn’t the type of “Iook, I’ve learned how to make sourdough bread and read 3 books while taking being off from social media” break. It’s the one where we create space for being.

As much as references are part of a creative life, more and more I find expression rising from quietness.

I was present. I intend to continue. I’ve embraced my not-so-inspiring parts of life as material. If we only create from joy, we’re doomed. I’m learning to create from loss, anger, hope, and a wider spectrum of emotions and experiences.

Life is a wild combo. Let’s embrace ours.

Guess who had a recent family addition?

This session marked 3 years of our photography-parents-friends relationship. That day I went to register Kaley’s Baek-il. In Korea, it’s a celebration for when a baby completes 100 days old (can we all incorporate this?). I told them “yes let’s do her dressed up photos but can I also get some snapshots in between?” to which they promptly agreed. That was the start. My first documented family.

Three years later, here we are with Kaleb’s Baek-il. There’s no better reward than having them come back year after year to register new seasons in their family.

The comfort level we’ve reached enables me to photograph their intimacy in a way very few people see. Photos that aren’t anywhere else but in their home.

This why it’s so important to pick someone you identify with and stick with them. The life memories you will save will be raw, intimate and authentic. How do you want to remember what you have today?
