Taylor, you are incomparable. It is very rare to meet someone who is all the things. You are gorgeous, you are kind, you care about the world, and you just carry yourself in a way that is beyond your years. Thank you for being my model on this long, hot, humid, and crazy day. The Senior Style Series | Part 5

Don’t Forget the Details

The little things matter more than most people realize.

Before your session, take a few minutes to think about the details:

🤍 Steam or iron your outfits
🤍 Wear undergarments that work with your clothing
🤍 Clean shoes and boots
🤍 Fresh nails if that’s important to you
🤍 Remove hair ties from your wrists
🤍 Empty your pockets

These small details may seem insignificant, but they help create polished, timeless images that keep the focus where it belongs, on you.

This set is so personal for me. Photography is the art of capturing light, and as I continue learning and growing as an artist and creator, I am learning to love every kind of light and shadow and being able to manipulate the emotion of a photo just by the different techniques of lighting is not only powerful but exhilarating. Creating this series was challenging in many ways but rewarding in so many more. Always learning, always growing, always evolving.

Create Variety

One of the biggest mistakes I see seniors make is bringing multiple outfits that all feel the same.

A great gallery includes variety.

The goal isn’t to look like a different person in every outfit. The goal is to create a gallery that feels dynamic and tells a complete story.

The more variety you bring, the more opportunities we have to create images that feel unique, memorable, and completely you.

For this set, we wanted to be able to run in the grass, have movement, and let the accessories speak for themselves. Sometimes a pair of cowboy boots or a hat can be the perfect finishing touch and have the versatility of being casual and elevated at the same time. There’s something about a wide open space that feels so romantic. 🥰

For this set, I knew we were going for personality and a little bit of edge. Any time I’m shooting a senior in an urban setting, I encourage them to push the envelope with their style for this setting. If you want to wear something trendier or fashion forward, a rooftop or downtown is perfect.

Dress for the Location

One of the easiest ways to elevate your senior photos is choosing outfits that complement your location.

An elegant garden calls for something different than a downtown rooftop. A field at sunset creates a different mood than a city street.

Your outfit doesn’t have to match the location, but it should feel like it belongs there.

When your wardrobe and location work together, your images feel intentional, cohesive, and timeless.

For this set, I knew we were going to have some unique architecture and beautiful landscaping, so I wanted Taylor in a dress that added color and texture to her images.

The Senior Style Series | Part 1

Accessorize with Purpose

Sometimes the most unexpected wardrobe additions create the most memorable images.

For this set, I knew we were going to be downtown next to city landmarks and historical buildings. I wanted Taylor in an outfit that was elevated but still had some whimsy. The ballet flats with the ankle detail added the perfect playfulness that makes this look perfect for this location. The rain was an unpaid contributor that prompted the umbrella. Sometimes during a senior session, there will be unpredictable moments that will create magic that you never expected. An unexpected pivot can sometimes create an unforgettable image.

From the beginning, I knew off-camera flash was something I wanted to add to my skill set. I’m excited to finally be diving in and seeing how it expands what’s possible in my work.

Being a 100% self-taught photographer has always come with its challenges, but I’ve always been someone who is obsessed with learning. Whether it’s photography, history, culture, or something completely new, I want to be a sponge.

I’m excited to keep growing in my craft, pushing myself creatively, and bringing that knowledge and experience back to my clients.
