It's been almost a week since I last gave my dad a hug and a kiss and told him I love him. I am thankful beyond what words could express that I was gifted time alone with him just before he passed early Monday morning.

My dad fought cancer on and off for 20 years. We thought he would just keep fighting, but the battle was too much for his body.

I appreciate the incredible outpouring of love and support and understanding. The grief is great, but our hope is even greater.

My amazing assistant Jennie has been taking care of nearly all of my tasks and rescheduling for me as I took this week off and will likely take all of next week off too as we prepare for his services in NC. ❤️❤️

Time is a gift. Be sure you get those grandparents in pictures!

Gift prints from us are the highest quality available on the market. The paper is a fine art cotton paper with archival inks. Our gold standard is to add a mat so that the inks do not get compromised from the oils on our hands (or yours). These are truly stunning. Incredible gift! Or keep them for your desk. 😘

Time is a thief.

This beauty just turned fifteen. I first photographed her when she was just 3 months old. I honestly have more favorites than I can fit here, and I only went back to 2009 because everything older than that is harder to get onto my phone. 😂

It is my greatest joy and privilege to tell your family's story through my lens.

Hi! This is me: Rae Barnes. And. I'm an introvert. (If you know I'm an INFJ with my F/T being the only close call).

Those that don't know me well might find this surprising. I can be bubbly. I laugh easily. On a good day, I'm even a little outgoing. 😂 But, as much as I love people, they wear me out.

This is why my business has always been and will likely always be a low-volume and high service business. I love getting to know the families I work with, and I adore seeing them regularly. I meet with each client a minimum of 3 times for every session to ensure you are well served at every step.

I understand this isn't for everyone... or even for most people. I understand that this time of year, most parents just want a couple quick snaps for their card, and so the search for a photographer that offers mini sessions ensues.

There's nothing wrong with this. Once upon a time, I thought all I needed was a Christmas card picture too.

But then, my babies grew into kids and then into tweens, and now, I look back at those "Christmas card images" and realize how precious they are now.

It is because of my experience as a mom of 4 and my 18+ years of experience as a professional photographer that I cannot, in good conscience, serve anyone with just a few cards or digital copies.

Your portraits will someday feel priceless. They deserve to be more than pixels on a screen floating on the cloud. And I would love to serve your family by not only photographing your authentic joy and love but by helping you print your precious portraits if that is overwhelming to you. ❤️

It may be gorgeous outside now, but soon, the leaves will fall and the temperatures will drop. It will be time to head indoors.

In home sessions, especially for babies, are usually among my favorites. I love the challenge of figuring out the light in your home, but I also just love seeing babies relax at home. Your home is a big part of your story. Let's set something up for you! My calendar for December-February is ready for all the in home sessions for you. ❤️

Sometimes people are hesitant to ask if they can bring their dogs to their sessions. Every time, I enthusiastically say YES! As long as the property allows it, I always want to include the furry member/s of your family for even just half of your session. 😍

Have you had your pups in your family portraits or do you tend to leave them out of it? (No judgement either way!)

Can you hear them laughing? That's my favorite type of portrait: the one that makes you feel joy. This family is full of adults, and while most of my families have kids, these portraits are just as important to have. Don't forget to keep getting portraits with your parents!

As a side note... the Busy Season is in full swing, and I'm terribly behind in keeping you all up to date with my work. So I'm posting this, a recent favorite of mine from last week. Their luxe leather album is already in production. 🎉 we are working extra hard to stay ahead of the game so that every single one of our clients gets the full service and experience we give year round.

It's been a while since I posted. Sometimes it feels like a waste of time to post on here when the makers of this platform have made the reach so limited for anything but video. But here I am!

I'm still here, and friends, I'm officially booked solid until Thanksgiving. (And that week has a minimum commission established). If you didn't book in time for the peak fall, I'm still happy to chat for in home sessions for December and beyond. Lifestyle sessions in your home can be so magical, but sometimes the magic isn't evident for some years... after you've moved or renovated or... just after babies grow into kids.

I look forward to showing you all more of my recent work and the work that's coming this crazy busy fall!
