Because once neither applause nor adversity can change who you are, the world has very little left to control.

I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved when people trust me enough to tell me what’s really going on. Tell me about the bad day. Tell me what’s been keeping you up at night. Tell me the things you’ve been carrying quietly because you didn’t know who would understand. I may not always know how to fix it, but I’ll listen. There’s something deeply meaningful to me about knowing that, out of everyone you could have gone to, you felt safe enough to choose me.

The best thing I’ve learned is to let people be exactly who they are. No overanalyzing every word, no questioning whether I should have been more or less of myself, no trying to become whatever might make someone stay. I show up with love, respect, honesty, and the best version of myself I can offer. After that, their response belongs to them. If they stay, I appreciate it. If they leave, I let them. I’m no longer interested in convincing people to change or forcing connections to survive. People change when they decide they’re ready. My responsibility is simpler: check my own heart, protect my character, and remain kind regardless.
