Does anyone else feel that we’d all be happier humans if every weekend was 3 days? We need one day for sports, birthday parties, and social events, one day for laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping…and then one day to chill and recharge. Who’s with me?! On another note, my Fall waitlist opens to my mailing list a week from today so if you’re not on it, you won’t see the offerings! Link in stories to sign up!

A moment for the horizontal crops 🥰. Tonight I’m feeling extra appreciative of having power and air conditioning after the storm last night knocked ours out. It made for a *pretty* sweaty sleeping situation in this house 😅. I never had AC in my house growing up and I truly don’t know how I slept 🤣.

This weekend was a whirlwind. On Saturday I got to watch my 9 year olds soccer team win a game for the first time in 4 seasons (!!). This team has persevered and persevered and all the parents may have gone a littleeeee wild when they finally won. And now it’s Sunday night already….I don’t know about all of you, but I’m ready already for the long weekend!

Are you nervous about how your toddler (or toddlers) will do at your newborn session? What if you just…didn’t? Hear me out, hear me out. I *intimately know* this is easier said than done. But here’s the thing, if you let go of all expectations, you’ll be surprised at what you get. Inside your home is the perfect time to do this because they are contained. We aren’t in an open field with endless areas to run away and not be in the frame. They’ll likely have a snack, throw a ball…and then come back. When they are not in the frame, we focus on you and your baby, your partner and your baby, and your pet and your baby.
Toddlers have this innate ability to KNOW when you want them to do something and then they do the exact opposite. So how do we combat this? Expect nothing 😆. And then be thrilled at what you get ☺️😉.

Motherhood is all consuming. Exhausting but empowering. It flies by and also crawls. For every sleepless night, there’s a gummy smile in the morning that lights up their entire face. I hope all the mamas in the trenches got a little rest and pampering yesterday! (Or at least at some point this weekend!).

Mother’s Day is yes, a “hallmark holiday” filled with often unmet expectations. But I think of it as a day to recognize how challenging motherhood is. Not just for mothers in the thick of newborn and toddler years, but people struggling to become mothers, mothers who have lost children, mothers who have lost their mothers. Motherhood is special, but also hard and often thankless. On this Mother’s Day, I say cheers to all the mothers who are doing the hard work to raise kids to better the world ❤️.

Maternity photo sessions with a subsequent baby hit deeper than with the first. With the first, you know your life is going to change…but you’re not quite aware of how much, how deeply, or how quickly. When you’re pregnant with your second, you’re acutely aware of HOW much will change when you add a new person to the family. You’re also aware of how deeply your older child’s life will change. A session to celebrate your family, as is, before this monumental event, is essential ❤️…and when the timing happens to align with Boston’s prettiest season? *chef’s kiss*.

Part of hiring a professional photographer is hiring their expertise. An experienced photographer can create magic with ANY family, in ANY home, and ANY location. *BUT* …and here’s the caveat…there are a lot of factors that go into having a successful session. Let me tell you what doesn’t matter:
1. How big your house is
2. Where you buy your clothes
3. Whether your toddler can hold still

What DOES matter is setting your family up for success. This means leaning on your photographer to help with the location selection (not every spot is good for all families), the timing (light matters!), the outfits (not going for perfection, you just don’t want detract!), how much time you need, (3u3 is not going to work in a short session!) etc.

We are not magicians, but when there is trust and guidance involved, we can get pretty close ☺️.

I blinked and suddenly it’s the last night of April.
I know we say this flippantly a lot, but oof do I mean it this time. Elementary school drama production, soccer season, business trip to Chattanooga, April vacation, back-to-back photoshoots, and blossoms doing their best to not follow any previous year patterns…April has been a lot 😅.
If your April felt like it was moving at a speed you did not agree to, I see you.
We made it though. Barely, but we made it.
How is it May tomorrow?! How.
