On February 21, 2026, I went on an adventure to Yosemite National Park, hoping to get that image of "Firefall" known as Horsetail Fall that you can only see during the last 3 weeks of February, if the sun can shine through the Fall. That means no clouds. I have been going for the last ten years, and I love it.
This one was a little different. I got up there to find out that the Park was closed because of the huge storm that caused a lot of problems. The West Gate 120 was closed the entire weekend. I checked in on the site to find out that the South Cave Rock Entrance was open. So at 6:30 am Saturday morning, I packed up my equipment and headed out. Unfortunately, this is the long route for me coming from Groveland that took over 2 hours to get there. It was well worth it.
The weather was beautiful, and it was cold sitting in three feet of snow for 8 hours, but the best part was all the people I met in my area were awesome, who also have a love for photography. By the end of the day, we become like family. I will continue my love for this beautiful phenomenon for many more years to come.
For those who do not know how this works, as the sun sets, the light hits Horsetail Fall just right, lighting it up as seen below. You do need to be at the right angle as well. If you go dead center, it will light up, but it's much better from the side.
