on the eve of my 27th birthday I took a series of photographs that ended up being a beautifully difficult video project to epitomize. months later I'm back from w/in the depths of my feminine psyche to try to describe it to you.

me, marisa, & the essence of suburbia in these photos urge you to google where your nearest polling place is, grab your mask, get in your vehicle, & vote if you haven’t already. last week I cast my ballot at the voting center on Kern st downtown & as i waited for my paper ballot to be printed i listened to the palpable animosity in the air in the form of nervously asked questions & a sporadic wave of sighs. i can’t write a hopeful post guaranteeing that everything will be fine no matter what, but i can guarantee that no matter who wins the fight is not over. it lives on in our communities & the struggles they face. i hope this year has been eye opening if before you thought this country to be justified & balanced. we’re founded on the chimerical notion of those checks & balances, but as history has indicated the fight for equality lies in throes of tearing down these fallacies & building up something in it’s place. so i’ll keep fighting & i urge your to do the same. please vote. & if you think it doesn’t matter, vote anyways. 🖤

hi all! i don’t usually do long-winded captions but here goes:

as a photographer i know that i am often complicit in an industry that perpetuates the abuse of women if i am not actively speaking out against it. too often we see posts or hear stories about models being taken advantage of & victimized. as a female photographer it is my job to stand up against that & protect the women in my community. i pride myself in creating a safe environment not only when i’m taking photos, but also online when you’re interacting w/ my account. i want models to be able to see that i follow another photographer & know they can trust them. i want models to come to me if they have questions about a photographer, job, contract, whatever. let’s learn to be business women together through our art! & male photographers: it’s not enough to be “one of the good ones” simply by not being a predator. what active steps are you taking in making our community & our industry a safer one? are you calling out your friends who you know are using their camera to take advantage of women? why do you take photographs? is it to make money? to take pics of women? to create art? look @ whatever the f**k you do & ask yourself if you’re contributing to the safety of the women who’s images you benefit from using! stay safe out there everyone! 🖤
