This adventure elopement at šŸ“Franklin Falls deserved its own post. In my most recent Reel, I tell the story of how I met them on a trailhead bridge the day Sean proposed to Ashley. I coincidentally had my camera and caught the moment (you can see it at the end of the carousel).

Fast forward to this past weekend, I got to shoot their intimate wedding at an epic waterfall in Snoqualmie Pass 🄹 Swipe through for their wedding photos, some behind the scenes, and the photo I took of their proposal just moments before we met.

We booted out to Southback on Crystal Mountain and drank some in the shadow of Mount Rainier for what was quite possibly the coolest backcountry ski engagement shoot ever.

Katey and Aaron wanted their engagement photos to reflect their shared love for type 2 fun, and also just the fact one of their favorite things about it is that rewarding beer at the top with the sweet view. If you’re a fellow backcountry skier, you know exactly that feeling.

Thanks to Rainier Brewing for this awesome R cape (repurposed into a veil) that came with the VIP pass you gifted me to your festival last summer. It was perfect for these photos.

I’m a Seattle wedding photographer, backcountry skier, Ikon Pass holder, and preferred vendor at Crystal Mountain. If you share skiing with your parter in any way, shape or form and also want to commemorate that in the form of an engagement or even a wedding, let me know! I’m ordained in the state of WA, and can follow you up and down just about any mountain.

Walking around Valle Verzasca barefoot, making friends with random dogs and dancing in the rain šŸ˜ Turns out Switzerland šŸ‡ØšŸ‡ is exactly how I imagined it in my dreams.

Fun fact about these two is that we met while in Switzerland, but they happened to also be from Seattle. And not only that, we lived less than a mile from one another in the same neighborhood. Bonkers!

The doggo was just a stranger who joined the shoot (and really hammed it up!) But in the time since these photos were taken, they’ve brought two little humans into the world 🄹

There is something about a Seattle courthouse wedding that just hits different. No fluff, no filler. Just two people who are so ready to be married that they didn’t want to wait around for a big production to make it happen.

Honestly? Kind of the most romantic thing ever.

Lauren and Brad had exactly that kind of energy last Friday, and it made for the best afternoon. šŸ¤

A Seattle courthouse wedding might be small by design, but it never feels small. It feels like exactly enough.

Seattle courthouse weddings might be the most underrated thing in the wedding world. No 200 person guest list, no seating chart drama.. just you, your person, and maybe a handful of your favorite people on a Pioneer Square rooftop that somehow feels like the whole world. The heel click says it all.

Lauren and Brad nailed it on the first day of spring and I had the best time tagging along. Warm weather, beautiful light, and just these two being unapologetically themselves.

If you’re also thinking about keeping it small and just doing the thing, I’m totally your photographer! Swipe to the end to meet me šŸ‘‰

Swipe for some really fun behind-the-scenes that’ll make you feel like you’re playing an FPS but for wedding photography šŸ˜‹ K & W fit 16 of their closest on one little dock for their elegant ceremony. It was definitely the smallest space I’ve shot a wedding in, and I just love how they all turned out 😌

Which version do you think is better? šŸ¤”

I used to try and keep up with wedding photography trends and edit how my idols edited. I’d buy their presets or try to copy their color toning, and it really just damaged true skin tones, color, the balance between highlight and shadows.

So for the last few years, I’ve been trying to perfect my own timeless and ā€œtrue to real lifeā€ style. And lately I’ve been asking myself what that means to me.

To me, true to real life means hand editing and never using someone else’s preset.

It means not using general tone and color curves in Lightroom so I don’t damage someone’s skin or clothing tones.

It means letting the grass be green and the ski be blue. It means letting shadows keep their cool tones, because that’s what shadows look like.

It means smoothing out the balance between harsh shadows and highlights instead of trying to make it look like the poor lighting was never there.

It means trying to ā€œfixā€ things less and letting things be, more.

Snowy engagement photos from Snoqualmie Pass šŸ˜ That pop of red on the wintry backdrop is so pretty. It can take some pretty specific weather patterns for ice to form like this, and finding an accessible wall that doesn’t require a hike in the snow can be even trickier. So I’d say stumbling on this one was pretty good luck for us!
