Cap and gown season always sneaks up—and then suddenly it’s here.

There’s something simple but meaningful about these sessions. No pressure, no big production… just taking a moment to capture the finish line of a chapter that took a lot of work to get to.

I’ve had the chance to photograph a few of these recently, and every one of them feels a little different because every story is.

If you’ve got a senior and want to grab a few cap and gown photos, I’ve got a little bit of availability over the next couple of weeks before things fill up.

Whether it’s for announcements, family, or just something to look back on years from now—it’s worth capturing.

There are some sessions that feel a little different—and this was one of them.

I’ve known Josh for close to 10 years now. He ran high school track and cross country with my oldest son, and we spent time coaching together with the Fulton Flash. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to photograph some really meaningful moments for him and his family—senior photos, family sessions, even capturing an adoption.

So when he reached out about photographing his engagement, it meant a lot.

It’s been pretty special watching his journey over the years, and now getting to document the start of this next chapter with Breonna.

Marriage, especially when you’re young, comes with its share of challenges. But having people in your corner, people who care about you and support you, makes all the difference.

Wishing you both a lifetime of growth, patience, and a whole lot of joy.

This is the third year I've been able to work with Fulton High School during Prom. It's always a lot of fun to be able to work with them and capture images for the students.

Students/parents the gallery is now live with your images. They are free to download. You can check them out at this link: alancombsphotography.passgallery.com/jZuZNG5OIVTzz

There’s something about sports that goes by way too fast. One season you’re just getting started, and before you know it, it’s over. With 5 kids, ask me how I know.

That’s why I love capturing moments like this. Not just action, but the athlete, the personality, the work behind the scenes.

If you’ve got an athlete in your life, individual or media day sessions are such a cool way to actually hold onto those memories long after the season ends.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how naturally real estate photography translates into AirBnB photography, and honestly it feels like a perfect fit.

Real estate taught me how to highlight space, light, and flow, but AirBnBs are where personality really shows up. Every place has a story, whether it’s a cozy cabin, a modern getaway, or something totally unique, and capturing that experience is what draws people in.

There are so many awesome properties out there that deserve more than just listing photos. They deserve images that make you feel what it’s like to stay there.

I’d love to start working with AirBnB hosts who want their space to stand out and connect with guests before they even book. If you’ve got a place, or know someone who does, I’d love to connect.

Feels like a fun next step. Let’s see where it goes.

Been getting the drone up in the air a lot more lately—and it’s made me realize just how little I actually flew it last year.

This past weekend I made a trip out to Ha Ha Tonka State Park to grab a few shots I had in mind. While I was waiting for the right moment, I sent the drone up… and this scene stopped me in my tracks.

Something about it feels almost mythical—like it belongs to another time or some far-off place you’d only read about.

There’s something about small towns that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile.

Pella isn’t just a place you pass through—it’s a place you notice. The details, the care, the way everything feels intentional.

Photos like this are why I’ll always take the detour.

Driving through the smoking mountains, my wife remarked that if I ever spotted a spot worth stopping for photos, we could pause for a few moments. I have numerous shots of this scene. The colors have always captivated me—everything was so brown, contrasted by a blue sky and distant horizon. Despite my efforts, I've never managed to capture the colors exactly as I see them.

Morels and Microbrews Festival is just around the corner. Do you have your tickets yet?

Event photography is a lot of fun. It's about finding the right balance between staying out of the way and going largely unnoticed to avoid disruption, while also being willing to engage with those at the event, as it can enhance the overall atmosphere.
