Awhile ago, the kiddo was talking about going to the skating rink, and it instantly took me back to all those hours spent at the Beach Grove Roller Dome as a kid. The music pumping through the speakers, friends laughing, overpriced bad food, and that penalty box. It was a whole vibe--- a cherished memory I hadn't thought about in years.

Inspired by the nostalgia I dug out my old skates and decided to celebrate with a little photoshoot while blasting some classic jams (safer than actually trying to skate, let's be real...)

When I first picked up a camera, I didn't know it would change my life. It was an old film camera, handed down from my dad, and I spent hours figuring out how to capture the perfect shot. I didn't realize it then, but those early experiments taught me the power of storytelling through a single image.

Now every time I create a portrait, I think back to that little kid holding a camera too big for their hands. it reminds me that the best art comes from curiosity and patience.

Transforming your simple phone photo into a dramatic portrait is easier than you think! Embrace the darkness as one way to bring out artistic vibes. (Use negative space to your advantage.)
*Keep backgrounds simple and dark to make your subject stand out
*Avoid overly cluttered spaces that distract from the mood
*Position your subject so the light hits them from the side, creating dramatic shadows and depth
* Try using natural light coming from a window or during the golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset)
If shooting indoors, turn off unnecessary lights and let shadows take center stage.
