Cave diver Sam Johnson enjoys Cow Springs in Luraville, Florida after a dive with buddies. Cow is a site owned by the Cave Diving Section of the National Speleological Society in north Florida, near the Suwannee River. A beautiful place to be for Earth Day, or pretty much any day.

In 2007 while walking out of a theater from seeing a Warner Brothers film I had worked on in 2005 in Louisiana, The Reaping, I got a phone call from the WB photo publicity department asking me about flying over to the Bahamas to finish up the last couple of weeks on the film Fools Gold with Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson, Donald Sutherland and a host of others. It didn’t take me but mere seconds to say yes!

These two shots are from that set and are the only time I got to work with Donald. Although it was a short time, I appreciated his sense of humor and curiosity about life as we worked in Eleuthera. I remember being in the production office one day and Donald telling the production manager that he’ll be at Sean Connery’s house if anyone needed him as he was going to go visit.

Donald died this week, June 20th, in Miami after a long illness.

It was special for me being back on set with Danai, Rick, Denise, Scott, Vince and others from the mothership show in Georgia. First shot is of me with long-time fellow camera, director of photography buddy Michael Satrazemis, who directed episodes five and six. It was so good seeing and working with “Mikey” again! For this episode, we filmed a lot at a summer camp for city kids in western NJ. The other photos show action scenes from set with Pollyanna McIntosh, Danai and Andy. It was great seeing Seth Gilliam again too. He and I go back to the first film I was hired to shoot stills on, in NJ funny enough, in 1993, on Heading Home.

TWD The Ones Who Live, the Michonne and Rick AMC Walking Dead spin-off, starts airing tonight, February 25th!
Last year I joined the cast and crew in New Jersey from February to May to shoot these episodes. It was wonderful to be back together again with the handful of folks that had been there when I joined this special show in 2011, and those that joined the following year too!♥️
I was there on set, camera in hand, to capture that first kiss on the couch, so I wanted to be there for this too.

British actor Tom Wilkinson died Saturday. While I’ve enjoyed watching him through the years in many film and television productions, I got to work with him on the HBO show Recount in Florida in 2007 while we shot it in Jacksonville and Tallahassee. He was a consummate gentleman, actor and a pleasure to be around. In the one group photo, Tom is joined by Bob Balaban standing on the left and director Jay Roach on the right.
