Some photographs begin long before the camera ever comes out of the bag....

Before arriving in Florence, I spent considerable time researching vantage points throughout the city. Florence offers no shortage of breathtaking views. I knew I wanted to create an image that included the Arno River, the historic bridges, and Florence's timeless skyline in a single composition. My research eventually led me to Piazzale Michelangelo, which offered exactly the perspective I had envisioned.

As sunset approached, I knew I was at the place I needed to be.

What this photograph doesn't reveal is the sea of people surrounding me. The overlook was packed with visitors hoping to witness the sunset. Finding the exact position I envisioned required patience, persistence, and squeezing into a very small opening among the crowd.

But photography is often like that. The final image may appear effortless, yet there is usually a story behind it—a search for the right perspective, the right light, and the right moment.

Standing there that evening, watching the warm light settle across Florence, the Arno River, and the bridges that have connected the city for centuries, I felt a deep appreciation for being able to witness and capture such a remarkable scene in such a fascinating city.

Some photographs happen by serendipity.

This wasn't one of them.

I frequently photograph the lifeguard towers on Miami Beach at sunrise. One morning, a thought occurred to me: what if I could photograph one of these iconic towers with a full moon rising behind it?

I knew I wanted the moon to appear over Miami Beach while there was still enough warmth and light remaining from the setting sun to illuminate the lifeguard tower in the foreground.

The challenge was timing. The moon had to rise early enough, the weather had to cooperate, and the light had to be just right.

It took four separate attempts before everything finally aligned.

Standing on the beach, watching the moonrise and the fading sunlight come together exactly as I had envisioned, I felt the same excitement that first inspired the idea months earlier. As the moon climbed above the horizon and the late afternoon sunlight bathed the scene in warm color, the photograph I had imagined finally unfolded before me.

Photography often teaches patience. Sometimes a photograph is made in a fraction of a second. Sometimes it's made through weeks of planning, waiting, and returning when conditions aren't right.

This was one of those moments that reminded me why the pursuit is always worth it.

This image makes me emotional every time I see it— a fallen service member making one final journey home. The silence of that moment. The salutes. The quiet respect from both military personnel and airport workers alike. Complete strangers united in gratitude and grief.

Today, we honor our fallen brothers and sisters who gave everything for something greater than themselves. Their sacrifice has brought us the freedom we enjoy each and every day of our lives. We cannot ever forget this.

And while we remember those who never made it home, we should also take a moment to honor the men and women currently serving in our military around the world. They continue to stand watch, protect, sacrifice time with their families, and place themselves in harm’s way in service to this country.

To all who served, and to those still serving today — thank you.
May we never forget the cost of freedom.

Nature put on a performance the morning this scene was captured unlike anything I had experienced before.

The sky came alive — deep, dramatic clouds rolling overhead while the rising sun broke through with intense orange light reflecting across the wet sand and water. During those moments, calm and chaos seemed to coexist.

What drew me to create this photograph wasn’t just the beauty of the scene, but the feeling it stirred in me. The contrast between the approaching storm and the warmth of the sunrise felt strangely metaphorical — a reminder that even in unsettled moments, there can still be light, color, and peace.

Mornings like this stay with me forever. Every time I look at this photograph, I’m transported back to that beach, listening to the waves and watching nature unfold in all its power and beauty.

Sunflowers, sky, and a moment worth slowing down for.

Not every photograph I create needs to tell a story or describe a place exactly as it appeared.

I made this image by intentionally panning the camera as the ocean gently ebbed and flowed. What drew me in wasn’t detail, but feeling — the motion, the softness of the water, and the way the colors seemed to melt into one another.

As I continue evolving as an artist, I find myself drawn more and more to photographs that leave room for interpretation rather than explanation.

Some days feel heavy.....

The horizon disappears-the light fades-everything feels suspended in gray.

And yet… even in the middle of it all, small moments of hope remain. I was drawn to the quiet minimalism of this scene along Biscayne Bay — there was solitude and stillness but what stands out most in this image is the orange umbrella in the grasp of this person.

A reminder that even during the challenges we may face in our lives, something bright can still carry us forward.

"Sunrise Layers"-Asheville, North Carolina
Looking at this photo, I can still feel the cold air rushing through me. I arrived in the dark at an altitude of over 6,000 feet. I could not have imagined the symphony of colors that nature had in store for me. The sun began to rise with hues of yellow and orange blanketing the sky; the colors intensified with a rare brilliance. I was alone on top of this mountain and complete silence surrounded me. It felt pure--that morning has left an indelible mark on me.

"Getaria's Graced"-Basque Country

I remember standing above the coast in Getaria, looking out over a stretch of shoreline that just took my breath away.

The cliffs drop straight into the Atlantic—layered and textured by time—while just above them everything blends into rolling green hills and a serene countryside.

As I climbed to the top of the cliffs, I was met with an invigorating breeze that made me feel alive. What struck me most was the contrast between the energy of the ocean below and the calm of the land where I stood. It all felt connected.

I spent time working this scene, trying to find a composition that could hold that feeling—an awe-inspiring landscape, not just in view, but in the tension and balance within it.

In the end, it wasn’t about anything dramatic happening. It was about being present in a place where everything already feels complete.

"Mystical Woodland"-Olympic National Park

A mile hike through the lush forest of Olympic National Park led us to Sol Duc Falls. My photography buddy Jim and I moved through a forest wrapped in deep, unending green—moss draping everything in a way that felt almost otherworldly.

Along the way, we came upon a small brook that stopped us in our tracks. I spent over an hour here, photographing it from every angle—upstream, downstream, over rocks, under them—searching for the perspective that would best express what I was feeling in that moment.

What stayed with me was the timeless quality of the scene. The soft light, the rich green moss, the serene movement of water… it all felt suspended in time. I felt as though I was immersed in a mystical woodland where stories lurked in the depths of my surroundings.

The stories remained unrevealed. Just Jim, myself, the water, and a gentle breeze moving through the trees.

And that was enough.
