WHY ARE NEWBORN SESSIONS BEST DONE WITHIN THE FIRST 14 DAYS?

You’ve probably heard photographers say, “Book your newborn session within the first two weeks,” but have you ever wondered why?

Those first 14 days are such a special little window because newborns are typically:

💙Sleepier : They tend to spend more time in that deep, sleepy newborn stage, which makes it easier to capture those sweet, peaceful poses.

💜More flexible : Their little bodies are still used to being curled up and cozy, making those classic newborn poses more comfortable and natural.

🤍 Easier to settle : With plenty of feeding, cuddling, and patience, many babies settle back into sleep more easily during this stage.

♥️ SO tiny! : This is when you get those teeny fingers, wrinkly toes, flaky skin, button noses, and all those little details that change SO quickly. 🥹

But here’s the important part:

14 days is a guideline, NOT a deadline.

Every baby is different. Some babies are perfectly happy being photographed at 3 weeks, 4 weeks, or even later. My sessions are baby-led, so we work with your baby rather than forcing them into a certain timeframe.

The goal isn’t to make your baby fit into a pose.

The goal is to capture YOUR baby exactly as they are in this fleeting season.

And trust me… you will blink, and that tiny little newborn won’t be so tiny anymore. 😭

POV: You just had a baby… and someone tells you that you need to pack up your newborn, diaper bag, feeding supplies, extra clothes, blankets, and basically your entire house just to go take pictures. 😅

Nope. Not here.

One of my favorite parts of offering a traveling newborn studio is that I come to YOU.

You stay home.
Baby stays comfortable.
You don’t have to worry about getting everyone dressed and out the door.

I bring the props, wraps, blankets, lighting, and everything needed to create beautiful newborn portraits right in your home.

And if baby needs to eat? We stop.

Needs a diaper change? We stop.

Won’t settle? We take our time.

Big sibling needs a snack break? Totally fine. 😂

You just had a BABY. Your newborn session shouldn’t feel like another stressful appointment you have to get everyone ready for.

It should feel relaxed, calm, and honestly… like a little pause in the chaos of those first few weeks.

One of the compliments I get the MOST during my newborn sessions is:

“You are SO patient with her.” 🥹🤍
or
“You’re such a natural with him!”

And honestly… patience isn’t really an option when it comes to newborn photography. 😂

Newborns don’t care about our timeline, our poses, or what we planned to do next. They’re going to cry. They’re going to wiggle. They’re going to need to eat, be changed, be cuddled, or simply need a minute.

And that’s okay. 💕

I never want parents to feel like their baby is being rushed through a session just to get the “perfect shot.” My approach is very much baby-led. We take breaks when baby needs them, we adjust when something isn’t working, and we let baby set the pace.

I think that’s probably why people tell me I’m a “natural” with newborns. It’s not that every baby magically sleeps for me (although we LOVE when they do 😂). It’s that I’m comfortable with the unpredictable parts.

I’ve learned to read their cues, stay calm when they’re fussy, and know when to keep going and when to stop. (Becuase stopping when baby shows signs of being done is EXTREMELY important)

At the end of the day, baby’s comfort will always come before the photo.

And somehow, those little moments of patience, soothing, rocking, and waiting are often what lead to the most beautiful images.

That’s what newborn photography should feel like. not stressful, not rushed, but calm, gentle, and completely centered around your baby.

If you’re expecting, don’t wait until baby arrives to reach out! Newborn sessions are best reserved during pregnancy so I can make sure I have a spot for you on my calendar. Your baby will only be this tiny once, and I would LOVE to document this incredibly fleeting season for you. 💕
