This weekend is going to be a fantastic weekend to kickoff hurricane season. Would love to get my hands on that Wind Monitor 5103 by R.M. Young Company . Have had my eye on these for a long time, esp with the sailboat, as they were originally developed for use at sea.

Chasing Hurricane IAN took my to Punta Gorda, Florida as the 150mph Category 4 major hurricane struck the southwester Florida coast. A devestating event with incredible storm surge. Though I intercepted the eye of the storm, the areas to my south were inundated. Stories of people jumping from their roofs into surge waters and clinging to trees. A horrific event.

As for me, I was in Punta Gorda where I captured winds gusting over 130mph. A rare lightning strike struck a few hundreds yards in front of me. Capturing cloud to ground lightning in the core of a hurricane is very rare. This video is a collection of some raw footage as the storm happened. The backside of this storm was the most intense of any storm I've chased. I didn't even exit the car to film as debris was flying around at lethal speeds.

I did not venture south to capture surge damage but it was extensive. Entire cities effectively gone.

Chase of Hurricane Nicholas. I wasn't expecting this to be strong enough to warrant a video but the storm rapidly intensified (35mph in 24hrs) to reach hurricane status before landfall. Winds were max sustained of 75mph. My chase was primarily in Matagorda, Texas.

My video of chasing Hurricane Ida. We were in Houma, Louisiana for most of the event and then raced to Raceland, Louisiana to catch the center of the eye. Lowest pressure recorded was 947.8mb just northeast of Raceland.

Ida came ashore as an upper end Category 4 with sustained winds of 150mph. Violent winds and surge caused major devastation across southeast Louisiana.
