Getting married in Gatlinburg during the second half of September? This is one traffic update worth knowing about.

The Spur, which connects Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, will have lane closures at different locations beginning Sept. 14 and continuing through Sept. 30.

Sept. 14–17, a southbound lane closure is scheduled from 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

Sept. 21–30, single-lane closures are scheduled in both directions near Huskey Grove Bridge from 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The northbound tunnel will also be affected. Work on Sept. 25 is scheduled to end at noon, with no weekend work during this period.

If your wedding plans have you traveling between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, I wouldn’t plan around a normal drive time. Give yourself some extra time for delays.

If you’re not sure whether this could affect your wedding plans, check with your planner or local vendors.

And if you still aren’t sure, feel free to contact me. I’m happy to look at where you’re staying, where you’re getting married, and when you’ll be traveling, and help you figure out whether you need to make any adjustments.

Are you getting married on September 18th or 19th? Rod Run weekend is coming up, make sure you’ve thought about how the traffic could affect your wedding day.

The good news is, you may not have much to worry about.

If your wedding is outside Pigeon Forge, you’re staying outside Pigeon Forge, and you don’t need to drive through Pigeon Forge, you’re probably in pretty good shape.

If you’re not sure, now is the time to check.

Where are you staying? Where are you getting your marriage license? Where is your hair appointment? Your ceremony? Reception or dinner? And what route will you use to get from one to the next?

A little planning can make a big difference.

Get your marriage license early in the day. Make sure guests have everything they need so nobody has to make a last-minute trip to the store. Check alternate routes ahead of time. And avoid driving through Pigeon Forge at all costs on Friday after 2 p.m. and Saturday after about 11 a.m.

Rod Run traffic is absolutely miserable if you get caught in it.

But knowing about it ahead of time gives you a chance to plan around it.

If you’re not sure how it could affect your wedding, check with your planner or local vendors.

And if they aren’t able to help, contact me. I’ll be happy to tell you if it’s a potential issue and the best way to handle it.

It’s hard to imagine East Tennessee without Dolly Parton.

About fifteen years ago, I had the opportunity to photograph Dolly in concert. At the time, it was privilege to photograph someone who had done so much for the place I call home. Today, that photograph means a little more.

She gave so much to the world. I can't think of anyone who represented the Smoky Mountains with more pride, generosity, humor, and heart.

Somewhere on Endor,
a ring bearer traded in his forest gear for formalwear…
but stayed ready for the rebellion.
May the Fourth be with you.

Every couple brings a piece of their story into the day. For these two, it was a shared love for a galaxy far, far away and this irresistible cutie. Sometimes the best details are the ones that make you smile twice.
