As of today, I have been asked 14 times this month for free work or items. Stop it. I have 4 kids and I work very hard to earn my living. Stop insulting and exploiting me for my talents. THANKS.

Allen Park Music in the Streets!

Someone recently asked me for my back story so here it goes!
Ok, get ready for this!
I knew I was an Artist at age 5. I was just different, I remember looking at my tiny hand hold a Crayola crayon and just knowing that I was going to do amazing things with those crayons one day. I signed my very first Art contract at 14 years old drawing characters for "Nurse Rosy" I had a fax machine and an office at 16. My parents were very supportive and encouraged me to run this path, they helped me any way they could.
In High School I really wanted to work for Disney but I did not get any scholarships and I could not afford to go to Florida for school. I tried to go into the Navy for Drafting and Graphic Design but I was denied because I have Asthma. No matter. I was going to make it anyway. I have a very firey determination. In High School I started working for a web design company in Ann Arbor and then after I graduated I worked for The Shopping Guides. I have been doing Graphic Design since then on the side as my own company. I have designed logos and have drawn characters for things all over the world. When you drive by a billboard and see a cute little lizard - that's probably mine. I started to get into Photography when I had kids. Now my photos are used on the cover of best selling novels. I have also illustrated children's books! When I was in Pinconning I sold all my artwork and donated 100% of the proceeds ($480.00) to toys for tots! You'd think I'd be a billionaire with all the successful things I have done but they don't call it "starving artist" for nothing. You kind of get the fame but not much else.
Now here's the fun part. I don't care about money. At all. I don't do what I do for money, that is not where the real value is - I do it because it has the ability to ignite passion in people! It inspires them to go out and find their own "amazing". To do GOOD! There is no greater feeling on this entire planet then when a small child comes up to me and watches me draw. I see it in their eyes - I see me! I see passion, creativity, that same firey determination and I want them to see that I do it for the GOOD. That you CAN change things. I want to leave it better than I found it. I want to show them that even though they may hear and see scary things out there that there is also so much goodness and hope!
Everyone always says when I do my chalk art "Aren't you sad that it will wash away when it rains?" They are always so shocked when I say no. I tell them that just like each day we start anew, another day to be amazing, to do awesome things as goes my art. It's a brand new day - wash it all away and let me do it all over again. With every breath that I breath I am an Artist and I am a powerhouse for good - I was blessed with a God given talent and I will use it until my arms give out.
And even then - I would use my toes!
