The migration is in full swing here in Illinois. I've been taking a lot of photos the past week or so; however, I'm not today since the weather is so lousy. I'm posting this gallery from May of last year since I'm so far behind. Many colorful warblers are featured here. These photos are from Binnie Forest Preserve and Freeman Kame. Hope everyone is doing alright. Enjoy!

There's been some crazy weather in Chicagoland over the past couple of weeks with two late season snow storms; however, this gallery looks and feels more like spring. A few photos from central and southern Illinois are included. Enjoy!

This gallery features the pelicans that were seen on the Fox River (and I still saw some on Saturday) and the great blue heron rookery at Rutland Forest Preserve. I also saw a pair of very cooperative eastern bluebirds. Enjoy!

Here's a gallery featuring photos from northern Florida earlier in March and also some from a couple weeks ago in Chicagoland. March is a good time to see ducks, pelicans, etc. in Chicago, so I'm focusing on that for now. Enjoy!

Here's a gallery from a trip to Phoenix that I took earlier this month. It features a handful of birds that are specific to the desert, but also many that can been seen at one time or another throughout much of the U.S. Enjoy!

Here's a gallery featuring some interesting Illinois birds in December... an american kestrel, northern shrike, snowy owl, and the Montrose Point piping plover (which was last seen 1/13). My next gallery will feature birds from a short trip I took to Phoenix last week. Enjoy!

Here's the final gallery from my Everglades trip. The highlight of my trip was seeing a barred owl at very close range. I was photographing the purple gallinules at the Anhinga trail, but the light was fading, so I drove to the Pa-Hay-Okee overlook to attempt to see the sunset. I realized it wasn't a good spot for that, but I noticed a few people taking photos on the raised boardwalk, so I stopped by. There was a barred owl sitting on a tree at eye-level and probably less than 20 feet away! I was there photographing for a while and then we all heard a loud barking sound... about 30 seconds later another barred owl swooped in and started courting the other owl! Enjoy! (And stay warm Chicago/midwest, we are in store for one of the coldest stretches of weather in a long time on Tuesday through Thursday.)

Here's the next gallery from my Everglades adventure. It was another great day for bird watching! Enjoy!

Here's day 1 (12/7/18) from my trip to the Everglades. The weather was perfect and there was a nice amount of bird activity. The purple gallinules were the highlights from the first day, but there was a lot of variety too. Enjoy!

This gallery has more of a winter feel to it (even though the photos were taken in mid November). The weather has actually been nicer the past couple weeks. A few interesting birds are featured... trumpeter swans, a harlequin duck, and of course the piping plover! Enjoy!
