My SS did so much more than just capture the wedding, he captured me capturing the wedding!

Fun fact: my SS was my husband!!!

Yes, I trained him.

No, this wasn’t his first time filling in when a SS called out.

He was my MVP of the day!

Oh, and it was so fun for me to see some BTS and remembering all the thoughts going through my mind at the time.

Instead of photographing the couple holding their drinks from a normal standing position, I…

• Moved closer to the cocktails
• Focused on the toast
• Let the couple fall softly out of focus in the background
• Used depth to create a more immersive image

The result? A photo that captures the feeling of the moment, not just what it looked like.

When you’re photographing weddings, challenge yourself to ask:
👉 “What detail helps tell this story?”

Sometimes it’s the rings.

Want natural smiles and fewer meltdowns during your family session? Here are a few things that make a huge difference:

✨ Don’t pressure them to smile.
The more children are told to smile, the less genuine those smiles become. Let them interact naturally instead.

✨ Keep expectations realistic.
Young children aren’t built to stand still for an hour. Movement, play, and short attention spans are completely normal.

✨ Focus on connection, not perfection.
Hugs, tickles, hand-holding, and cuddles almost always create better photos than stiff posing.

✨ Let them be silly.
Funny faces and goofy moments help kids relax. Once they feel comfortable, those sweet genuine expressions usually follow.

✨ Trust your photographer.
Some of the best images happen between poses—in the giggles, cuddles, and little moments you don’t even notice.

While the lead photographer is capturing the big moments—the first kiss, the vows, the grand entrance—I’m watching for the little ones.
