I’ve done enough weddings where I sometimes think I’ve seen it all. Saturday’s wedding proved me wrong. The groom serenaded the bride as she walked down the aisle. Now I feel inadequate because all I did when I got married is stand there.

I recently did a wedding at a venue, Echo Mountain, that had a great view of the valley below. The couple wanted a starry shot to end the night and initially I was disappointed that it was such an overcast night, but I could see bits of stars anyway so I figured, why not see what I get? I tell you, friends, it’s hard to get a good sense of it on a small phone screen, but on a laptop it looks pretty cool! And a big shout out to the bride and groom braving the wind and the cold to get the shot!

Happily, most every fall I get to do an engagement session in the autumn aspens.

I tried something new at a recent wedding. This is a sparkler exit, but with less burn-y fiber optic glowy sticks instead. Sadly, these are not very bright (neither am I, but that’s another story) so I cranked the settings to expose for the darkness.

But then I thought it would be interesting to try it at a low shutter speed that keeps the “eye” of the camera open long enough to make the waving lights look all stretched out since the camera was open long enough to capture the motion.
