Photography. Collage. Painting. Inspired by nature
See my website for more info! Photographer. Painter. Artist. But I couldn't let go of art.

After working for nearly 10 years in the advertising world as a marketing photographer, I shifted gears into full time motherhood. I started painting again and now I work in both photography and painting. I try to find a balance between capturing stories on camera, and creating stories in my abstract paintings. I’m inspired by nature, traveling, and observing day-to-day life.

“Do what is comfortable and familiar when your energy is low.”

I wish I could remember what podcast I was listening to when I heard this!

I have been living by this phrase a lot over the past year.

I’ve realized my love for Cyanotypes has grown out of the phrase as well. It's something that makes me feel a little bit like I’m playing in the darkroom again, something that doesn’t take as much time as other things I would like to create, but also brings me a lot of joy.

What creative things do you do when your energy is low?

A simple thing that makes me really happy....

My mother-in-law found and gifted me these vintage oil pastels. They were from her brother who passed away years ago in a tragic accident. I love to think that the art I make with them is somehow connected to the art he would have made.

Small connections to the past, present, and future.

Sometimes things emerge unexpectedly in a painting. I start to see shapes, depth, and possibilities. When it's complete I see something I never saw before. A memory, a smile, pain, or a mixture of all three.

The journey and the art all fill my soul with joy.

Red details…

Recently I was viewing a large painting on display that was mostly tan and brown tones. I noticed bits of red, the first strokes on a women’s dress. At first I thought it was an odd choice for color use considering the rest of the piece. Then I noticed red flecks in a few other spots along the piece. They were all so subtle, yet they took my eyes around in a triangular pattern and suddenly I saw deeper meaning in the piece that I had not realized before.

We often think leading lines, physical lines, can walk us through a piece but colors can have the same impact. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of bright, contrasting colors, even in works that seem muted.
