Racing off into the night to an abandoned mining facility might not be on everyone's nightly todo list. But with the imminent demolition of American Flats, we had to make our way up there just one last time.
For me, it was a chance to go back and get a couple shots that I'd missed the first time I was there, just a few weeks ago.

In the evening, the sun having set some time before, we two explorers, Neil and I, made our way into the wilderness to the site of the ruins. A cautionary word here and there, warning to be mindful of missteps, left my senses alert, perhaps even phobic, of the dilapidated buildings.
I attach my camera to the tripod, hand Neil the release, leaving my worry of injury behind, and I touch the switch on the toy for the night - the
The cavernous concrete structure erupts with blazing color, breaking the night wide open, and bringing a new nocturnal life to the graffiti-laden surfaces.
These are some of the pictures from this adventure into the crumbling chromatism.

Friday morning... technically. The alarm goes off at 3 a.m. Shuffle off to the bathroom for a quick shower to help wake up. Bundle up, and head off into the dusty dark to try to capture an image in the pre-dawn chill. As the sun rises, the colors erupt like the flames from the burners, and the balloons set to flight yet again. It is a festival of brilliance, and a magical time to grasp at the beauty through the camera. I love this event!

Several months ago, I embarked on a project that was loosely associated with my job at the time - LightWand v2.0. The project was put on hold for a while, but I've kicked it back into gear.
Keep watch for updates.

As Americans, we find a way to celebrate just about everything. So when the holiday rolls around where we celebrate America herself, well... it usually goes into awesome mode. I love the 4th of July celebrations, and this year, I am running all over the countryside to see as many fireworks and things as I can. Happy 4th, everyone!!
