Alright I'm putting this out into the universe. Do I happen to have any friends who would be willing to barter building me a VERY powerful computer in exchange for photography, prints, photo albums, retouching, social media management and content, music composition, music lessons, or any of the plethora of other things I can do? I am STRUGGLING trying to run photoshop and am at my wits end. They keep updating it and neither of my PCs can handle it. I'm open to ideas, trades, anything at this point.

I don't just photograph horses. I have experience in headshots, engagements, maternity, weddings, senior photos, portraits, creative sessions, celebration of life sessions, pets (cats, dogs, etc.).

I'm a professional flutist and composer, as well as arranger and can mix music.

I also offer dressage freestyle music composing and mixing.

I haven't really heard this talked about in our industry often.

Sometimes, we (I know I do) grieve our horses, animals and loved ones before they are gone.

It's called anticipatory grief. It's a painful ache that comes from knowing that someday the horse standing beside you, the dog laying on your feet, your cat sleeping in your lap, the person that you love, or even this particular chapter of your life will change.

That pain makes it so hard to enjoy the present moment. You look at your horse and think, someday I'm going to miss you so much.

You take a picture and suddenly you're thinking about the day that you'll wish you could step back into that moment and feeling. I don't think this is morbid, I think it's because we understand how precious their life is.

Maybe that's why Celebration of Life sessions, and photos in general are so important to capture. Photography can't stop time. It can't keep your horse young or prevent the pain when they pass. But what it can do is give us somewhere to return to, that familiar love, and a reminder of that moment.

A reminder of how they looked at you, the quirks and details of them you often memorized, the way you felt when they ran to the gate to greet you, the relationship that you fostered.

I take photographs because I'm afraid of losing things. I have THOUSANDS of photos of my horses, my cats, my rabbits, my geckos. I have videos of my now passed horse Khali whinnying at me. Hearing her voice again is so comforting. Seeing those photos soothes that painful ache of loss.

Sometimes we take them because we want to be brace enough to fully love something we know won't be here forever.

If you're ever feeling that pang of sadness while looking at your loved one, it's because someday you know this will just be a memory.

It's not wrong to grieve early. It's proof of how deep your love goes. Sadness and happiness can coexist at the same time. That's perfectly normal. You are allowed to feel these feelings.

So don't be afraid to take the pictures. Fill up your phone with them. One day they will be your biggest comfort. I know they are mine.

Something I'm doing differently this fall: Saying screw it to following the rules - even the one's I have subconsciously made for myself.

More than ever I'm choosing relationship over performance when I'm with animals, and photographing them.

I don't need to have a purpose to every ride. I don't need every interaction with my horse to end with a new skill. And more than ever, I don't need to prove anything to anyone.

I am actively listening more. I notice more. When a horse says yes, no, or I'm unsure. If It's a no, hey that's okay. We can just hang out, or do nothing at all.

I want to build relationships based on trust, communication, consent and understanding. This applies to every photo session I am honored to capture.

I'm applying that vibe to myself too. I'm prioritizing my mental and physical health. I'm setting boundaries, slowing down when my body tells me to (or before). I'm choosing my own experiences over my insane expectations for myself, and connections over productivity.

This photo is a reminder that we don't get unlimited time, and I want to make the best of it.

I have been photographing Summit since he was baby, and sadly he is now passed. I am so grateful that I got to have these moments with him. I loved working with Summit, it was all about being free and capturing the genuine moments.

I don't want to look back at my life and realize I was so consumed by perfectionism that I actually forgot to live and by myself.

This fall, more listening, more presence, more horses and humans just allowing them to be themselves, more saying screw it to the standards we were taught. And more of me allowing me to be me.

Senior year is here for the class of 2027! I can't think of a better way to celebrate this chapter than capturing you and your horses. Here is a sneak peek of Zoe's senior session with her two horses, Zeus and Reba.

Since it is officially September here are three things I want you to think about going into this autumn.

1) You do not have to wait for the perfect time to photograph you and your horses. Your horse doesn't need to be in peak riding condition, or completely sparkling clean. You don't need to have the perfectly chosen outfit. You don't have to have everything figured out. Sometimes the most meaningful photographs happen amongst the chaos of life. Plus, you can rely on my eye as a photographer, editing skills and advice to guide you and make your images beautiful. Lets be real - there is no perfect time for anything.

2) Photographs aren't just for milestones. You don't need to have won a blue ribbon or championship. You deserve memories of you and your horses simply just because you deserve them. Often, and very sadly, I meet horses for the first time during their Celebration of Life photoshoot. I am completely honored to photograph them, but often times I hear, "I wish I had done this sooner". Capture your horse at any stage of their life, and yours. Treat yourself!

3) Last isn't about photography at all - but about growth. You are allowed to outgrow things. Goals, friendships, disciplines, hobbies, even the version of yourself you felt like you had to become. Growth doesn't always look impressive either. It's simply consistency, boundaries, and following your heart.

So here is to a new season, new chapters, new memories, and letting old things fizzle away so you can find yourself. Let the leaves fall.
