Research and Investigation of the Paranormal

Research and Investigation of the Paranormal Research and Investigation of the Paranormal, (RIP), is a team of dedicated members who seek to find the scientific truth regarding the paranormal.

RIP raises money through charity ghost hunts to support Veterans, Law Enforcement and First Responders. Founded in 2008, we are attempting to gain a better understanding of paranormal activity, utilizing scientific methodology, and providing tangible/logical explanations to "unexplained" activity whenever possible. Evidence is gathered by utilizing various modes of equipment including full spectrum cameras, voice recorders, electromagnetic field meters and more. We work with the community to help them understand how paranormal investigations are conducted and what entities they may be experiencing, all in an effort to promote and explain the paranormal field. Greg Stephens, Founder/Team Leader/Lead Investigator
Greg retired as a First Sergeant from the U.S. Army in February 2014 after 26 years of service. His interest in and experience with the paranormal began as a child growing up in Mineral Well, Texas when he would see and chase American Indian spirits along the river. Greg has a deep love and respect for the U.S. Armed Forces and history - especially the Civil War and all things military. He officially began investigating in 2007 with another team when he realized they were not in it for the people, rather seeking fame. He formed RIP in 2008. If you or someone you know is experiencing unexplainable occurrences contact us, we can help.

“What makes Granbury particularly fun during haunted season is the variety,” Dooley said. “You can enjoy the entertainment and costumes of Spooky Spectacle, hear the stories and legends connected to our history, walk through a haunted attraction or actually participate in a paranormal investigation. Visitors can choose just how haunted they want their Granbury getaway to be.”
For Visit Granbury, the growing interest in haunted tourism also complements the destination’s traditional fall offerings.
“We absolutely love fall in Granbury—the festivals, beautiful weather, lake, historic square, shopping, dining and entertainment are all part of what makes this such a wonderful time to visit,” Dooley continued. “But there is another audience looking specifically for haunted experiences, ghost tours and paranormal tourism. Granbury has an authentic story to tell there, too, and we want those travelers to know they can find it here.”
With a historic downtown, generations of stories and legends, and a growing collection of spooky experiences, Granbury offers plenty of reasons to make an overnight getaway out of the season.
After all, in the Celebration Capital of Texas, even Halloween deserves a celebration.
So, what are you celebrating? We are sure this fall, it’s time to get your haunted on in Granbury.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Granbury Is Getting Its Haunted On This Fall
Spooky Spectacle Kicks Off a Season of Ghosts, Legends, Haunts and Paranormal Adventures in the Celebration Capital of Texas
GRANBURY, Texas (September 08, 2026) — Granbury knows how to celebrate—and this fall, the Celebration Capital of Texas is getting its haunted on.
Known for its historic charm, festivals and year-round celebrations, Granbury is turning up the spooky side of its tourism offerings this season with a lineup of haunted attractions and experiences ranging from ghost stories and local legends to paranormal investigations and a full-fledged haunted house.
The haunted season officially kicks off September 19–20 with Spooky Spectacle 2026 at the Lake Granbury Conference Center, bringing two days of horror, paranormal, sci-fi, cosplay, fantasy, metaphysical exhibitors and entertainment to Granbury.
“Spooky Spectacle has become one of our favorite ways to kick off this season in Granbury,” said Tammy Dooley, Director of Visit Granbury, the City of Granbury Convention & Visitors Bureau. “It brings visitors from outside our community who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, shop and experience Granbury—and many of them come specifically because they love this type of tourism. Haunted and paranormal tourism has a very loyal following, and Granbury has some wonderful experiences for that audience.”
This year’s Spooky Spectacle will welcome celebrity guests Ken Sagoes, known for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 & 4, and Sandy Johnson, who portrayed Judith Myers in the original 1978 Halloween. The weekend will also feature exhibitors, a mobile escape room and a Sunday costume contest with prizes for both children and adults.
Admission is $5 per person per day, with children under five admitted free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Texas Equine Xperience and Sanctuary.
“Brandy Herr and the Spooky Spectacle team have built an event that continues to grow its following while bringing a unique audience to Granbury,” Dooley said. “It is fun, affordable and different—and it gives us the perfect opportunity to say, ‘Okay, Granbury, haunted season has officially begun!’”
And Spooky Spectacle is only the beginning.
A Season of Ghosts, Legends and Haunts
Visitors looking for a good ghost story can explore Granbury’s colorful past through Ghosts and Legends Tours, where tales of historic Granbury, local folklore and legendary characters bring another side of the city’s history to life.
Those ready for something a little more intense can venture into Twisted Hollow Haunt, Granbury’s haunted house experience designed for visitors who prefer their Halloween fun with considerably more fright.
Paranormal enthusiasts can also join Research and Investigation of the Paranormal (RIP) for its first annual Ghosts, Legends and Lores, October 2–3, a two-day event combining history, folklore and paranormal investigation.
The weekend begins Friday evening with a cemetery tour and paranormal investigation. Saturday features local artisans and bestselling authors, followed that evening by a ghost hunt at five locations on and near Granbury’s historic downtown square.
