As most of you know Birth sessions are one of my absolute favorite session to capture. There is no posing there is no direction, it is pure rare emotion.
I had the honor of capturing the birth of a great friend of mine. I have never seen such a strong woman with such perseverance. I get the text at 6 pm letting me know that the contractions had started and she was going to keep me posted. I was thrilled, I kept waking up all through the night checking my phone to see if there was any news. Finally at 6 AM she calls telling me the contractions were 3-5 minutes apart and consistent so away they went to the hospital. Little did any of us know that she was going to be in Active labor for 24 MORE hours.
I have never seen a husband in more emotional pain than I did that night. He wanted to take her pain away, he wanted to do more than just hold her hand. It was heartbreaking yet beautiful at the same time. Here he was sitting next to his wife that was at 10 cm for over 5 hours..
Resident after resident kept telling her she had to have a c section. But she kept saying if her baby is ok and she is ok she wanted to keep trying. Finally after no progression after those 5 draining hours, it was decided that a C section would be best. I wanted to take all the pain and fear I saw in her eyes. The frustration of holding out for so long, and enduring all that pain just to succumb to a c section. But it was what needed to be done and from that she delivered the most beautiful little girl.
