Some love stories begin with grand gestures. This one began with two missing homework assignments. ❤️
These two are high school sweethearts who met in a four-year architecture and design drafting program. She was the only girl in the class, and he had noticed her long before he finally worked up the courage to really talk to her.
Then a substitute teacher accidentally lost exactly two assignments in the entire class — his and hers.
When their regular teacher came back and called them out for being the only two without their work, he started complaining about the substitute. She laughed.
And apparently, that was all it took to get this story moving.
Soon he was inventing reasons to spend more time with her — including claiming he didn't have anyone to go with on a physics field trip to Busch Gardens so he could join her group. (He absolutely had friends. 😂)
Eventually there was an invitation to one of his jazz concerts, a phone number, and their first official date at Panera Bread on February 2, 2018.
Their first kiss came a month later.
Their first "I love you" happened while standing in line at Halloween Horror Nights, when he drew I ❤️ U in a little sandbox game on his phone. She looked at it and told him he had to actually say it.
So he did.
And somewhere along the way, these two kids simply grew up together.
She followed her creative side into business, earned her degree from the University of Florida, and is now back at UF pursuing her MBA on a full-ride scholarship. He built his career in IT. She's art, creativity and business; he's technology. Her favorite color is blue. His is green. They both love dragons and fantasy.
Different in plenty of ways, but wonderfully complementary where it matters.
He told me that there was never really a moment when he suddenly realized she was "the one," because he simply never pictured a life without her.
She was his first girlfriend.
He was her first boyfriend.
And after more than eight years together, he brought her to the Grand Canyon in the darkness just before sunrise.
