A rustic cabin in traverse city with a sauna, private beach + firepit, kayaks and summer camp nostalgia for under $100? Yes, please.

I had to spend a night in Traverse City and I’ve been dying to check this place out! I didn’t have much time to wander and sad I didn’t get to see it all.

It would be such a great place for a group trip because everyone could have their own little cabin but gather outside!

Michiganders - send this one to the group chat!

PSA - if you’re high maintenance you probably won’t like this place. It’s clean, it’s got character, comes with lots of great amenities - but it’s not luxury.

Maybe you don’t need a vacation. Maybe you just need a day like this.

I recently had the chance to capture a little preview of The Dragonfly Retreat in Saugatuck, Michigan - a full day designed around slowing down, taking care of yourself and simply letting someone else take care of you for a change.

The day begins with sunrise yoga and continues with personalized wellness treatments, fresh juices throughout the day, sauna, cold plunge, hot tub and plenty of time to simply rest and enjoy the property.

As the sun goes down, the day winds down with a sound bowl session followed by restorative yin yoga.

No rushing. No taking care of everyone else. Just an entire day dedicated to nourishing, restoring and recharging.

A few moments I captured during a storytelling stay at chateau chantal 🍷

Storytelling stays are where my 20 years of portrait photography experience meets my hospitality photography.

Of course potential guests want to see what your property looks like, but this is how you show them what it feels like.

Before the project, I send out a questionnaire and chat with the host to learn about their property, their offerings and the vibe they want potential guests to feel.

Then I entice some friends or family to join me so they can actually experience the space while I hang out in the background and capture it.

The end result is a full gallery of evergreen lifestyle images and b-roll hosts can pull from again and again for social media, website and marketing.

Not just content that shows the property. Content that makes people want to be there.

Now booking storytelling stays November and beyond. Have camera, will wander.
