The Mills House Hotel is one of my favorite spots in Charleston, SC.

Besides staying in the hotel, it offers so much more too!

Staying in town? Walk over for the treats, the drinks, and the little art shop. That’s exactly the atmosphere you want built into your visit.

Engagement session downtown? The Mills House, every time. That pink backdrop does magic.

Looking at wedding venues in Charleston? Put this one on your list. It’s one of the most photogenic settings downtown and you’re a short walk from half the other spots I love for portraits.

The Mills House has earned a spot on both my Charleston list and if you are considering a Charleston engagement session in the area or getting married in Charleston and The Mills House is your feel, I would love to hear from you!

Emma and Caleb wanted their engagement photos in Port Huron, Michigan and I was sold before we got into details. A coastal spot is always my favorite for engagement sessions but for them, this was more than a backdrop because the town meant something. Immediately I knew we would make this location work.

We spent the afternoon hanging out at the beach, stopped by the oldest lighthouse in Michigan, and had about the best weather you could ask for that made these images so incredible.

How to make the session even cuter? Their dog Myles joined too. Near the end, we headed to a private beach house and Myles let loose running circles around Emma and Caleb with the cutest zoomies. Best way to end a session.

If you’re looking for Michigan engagement photos in Port Huron, this is the kind of evening I love shooting. Some good light, good company, and a place that means something.

Can’t wait to celebrate these two again next year at Jorgensen Farms Weddings + Events!

Hey there! For the new faces around here, welcome! Glad you’re here. I’m Hayley! Let me reintroduce myself…

From Michigan gardens and Great Lakes summers to the Charleston coast, most days you’ll find me near the water, at the beach with my two golden retriever dogs, looking for the same light I chase on wedding days…and of course enjoying the water, the sun, and all the best beach day vibes.

Home base is Indiana, but Michigan has my heart for the same reasons Charleston does. Two places that couldn’t look more different, but they coexist in the same part of me.

Charleston has a specific hold on me. As a charleston wedding photographer, the colors, my story, the atmosphere, the vendor teams I’ve built real friendships with, it’s a place I genuinely thrive in, and serving couples there is something I don’t take lightly. And same can be said for Michigan!

Truly love both places so much and any other locations that have that same vibe.

Let’s talk about this dress.

Ashley’s gown was built from 3D floral lace. Dimensional flowers worked right into the fabric with a sheer, ribbon-laced back that’s easily one of my favorite details from the whole day. The train trailed out behind her through the garden, which always had the most gorgeous light. Her hair fell in soft, undone waves, and she carried a bouquet of dahlias, ranunculus, and garden blooms in coral and lavender, finished with a trail of pink ribbon that moved right along with her.

Not every second look belongs to the bride.

Rob walked down the aisle in a black tux. Sharp and traditional.

By the time golden light settled into garden-party warmth for the reception, he’d traded it for white. Lighter, looser, ready for the party.

Second looks aren’t only a bride’s move. A suit change marks the same shift a gown change does, the pivot from ceremony to celebration.

Chic, considered, effortless enough to feel unplanned.

One of the most beautiful parts of this craft I hold is the art of noticing.

Couples have told me they received images of moments they didn’t even see…other people forming their own memories on the their sweet day.

For Kathryn and Noah’s Lowndes Grove wedding day in Charleston, getting to witness them fully in it with every moment of joy and every quiet feeling, that’s something that doesn’t have a word for it but it just adds something so lovely to their gallery. Images that cannot be planned.

More often than not, these are the ones couples and their families return to. Not the ones from a Pinterest shot list.

The art of noticing those quiet details, that’s where my favorite work lives.

The light in this Hotel Bennett suite is exactly why your getting-ready space matters so much and what made Claire’s getting ready images so lovely.

Before the first look, before the ceremony, a quiet morning is where everything begins.

The room you’re in shapes how the day feels and how it photographs. Natural light is the difference-maker. A room that feels open and calm helps you feel that way too, and it shows.

If your venue already includes a getting-ready suite, your morning stays simple. If you’re working with a hotel instead, book a full suite (not a standard room) so there’s space for your beauty team and your crew, think through parking and access for your wedding party, and ask about turning off the overhead lighting (it changes how light reads in your photos and on skin tones!!)

If a sailcloth tent has been part of your Northern Michigan wedding vision, I completely understand why.

I love photographing under sailcloth for a simple reason: the light. It’s soft and warm, the way you’d want it to look in every photo. It’s not harsh, not flat, just right. Add in the blank design concept, with a dash of that lake air and the string lights coming on as it gets dark, and it’s easy to see why it feels like such a natural fit for a Michigan wedding.

But honestly, my favorite part isn’t the light. It’s watching couples relax into that space. Dancing, laughing with their people, not thinking about the camera at all.

Checkered flooring, laid outside under natural light…it’s one of my favorite details to see couples choose because it does double duty. It’s a design statement and it changes how the whole moment gets photographed.

This Charleston wedding was timed for that late-afternoon window when the sun sits to bring in that glow. After introductions, Ava and Kyle moved straight onto the floor and their guests circled in around them. No one was seated at dinner tables half-watching. Everyone was standing, turned toward the couple, present for it.

That’s the part I love most about this setup, it’s not just a beautiful surface to dance on. It changes where people are looking.

Design like this doesn’t happen by accident. It’s chosen and intentional.

So yes…you should do the gorgeous custom flooring and dance outside under the glowy sun!
