She has so eloquently put into words my feelings this last year after the loss of my father.❤️

I met Joan Didion only a couple times. I think the first was at a New Yorker magazine party in the late 1990s or early 2000s. This was way before the Year of Magical Thinking, or Blue Nights, but by then she had already stolen my heart with her brilliant, laser sharp writing. I mostly felt tongue tied around her, but I remember physically she had the tiniest frame, a very soft spoken voice that made you lean in and a steely wit. She made you roar with laughter. When I get writers block she is a writer I turn to to clear my head. We all have our totems. She’s always been one of mine. RIP
