Keeping with the flower theme -
Holland, MI.

Fields of tulips sprout from the ground of the Windmill Island Gardens every Spring. The colors elicited by the flowers bring some sort of Summer-time feel to the air, and the scent that emanates from them wafts past your nose to create a sense of euphoria.

Although it wasn’t my first time visiting, the weather was much nicer this year, and the colors seemed much brighter!

Impromptu shoots when you aren’t feeling the greatest, are the best.

I’ve been telling myself that I need to get back out there and play with my camera some more, but due to COVID-19, I honestly just haven’t been feeling it.

Yesterday, my roommate just had an idea, and we decided to drop everything and make it happen. Most of the photos from this shoot turned out really good and I can’t wait to finish editing them!

As warmer weather starts to set in for West Michigan, I figured it was only natural to reminisce on afternoons where COVID-19 was the least of our worries.

In a time where human interaction is limited, I feel like we all have a responsibility to become more connected.

With social media slowly taking over our society, we have a couple of options. One of them is to isolate and degrade. Become desensitized to human connect and stray further from each other by creating a life online.

The other? To fully connect. Use social media in ways that not many people talk about. Share and spread information to loved ones, research new things, learn different skills that we can all use once this is over. Use social media in a positive way to bring value to the time that we spend away, so that when we finally come together, we value that time even more.

Oh beautiful Washington state.

Something about waterfalls. The tone and mist that covers my ears while I watch them move thousands of gallons of water. Somewhat personified by influencers and motivators of modern humans.

Waterfalls are a seemingly rare sight. Almost always desired by hikers and the general public, but almost always found tucked away in the midst of nowhere. It’s very beautiful to find waterfalls in the most unexpected place, almost when you need them most.

At Mount Rainer National Park, I can’t say I expected a waterfall, let alone multiple. I expected mountains and wildflowers (which it delivered on), however, waterfalls are coating the land that Rainer sits on, and I couldn’t have been happier to have witnessed some of them.

Most people know about this spot by now, which is pretty unfortunate. I always loved the colors that came from this spot.

I used to visit here for a while when I was younger, and the serenity and secrecy allowed my mind to wander far beyond the veil that it usually was coated in.

Most of the time, all of the thoughts didn’t mean much at all - consequences of being a high schooler and seeing the world through a much different lens at the time.

But I accredit this place to giving me much of what I know now. How I think now. If you guys find a place that feels like home, but is also lost in the open; keep it close.

Nature is everywhere.

On a cold morning in Grand Rapids, I proceeded to clean my windshield with wiper fluid, only to have it freeze in amazing patterns by the chilling air.

Little plumes of mountainous designs scattered the windshield, and it was too beautiful - with a centered tree in the background - to not capture the pattern.

Today marked a special day. 02/04/2020. Today marked the day where I was finally happy with the shots I took. The day that I wasn’t unhappy with the outcome of a photoshoot.

I used to be the guy that took natural photos with minimal to no editing, and would compare myself to the ones who edited their photos. “Why are their photos so vibrant and elaborate, and mine just suck?”

I found a balance between story telling, and composition. Simplicity is often the best when taking pictures, and all it takes is a little bit of touching up to bring out everything the photo has to offer.

I found a stride of confidence in my shots, because I thought they were good. That’s all that mattered to me. But lately I fell back into my trap, where comparison and not being good enough were thoughts that plagued my mind.

Today was different. Today I took shots for fun. I messed around, while still being serious. No timeline, and no previously organized ideas. Just me and my camera.

There’s something about the framing and composition of this shot that I can’t get enough of.

Boston, MA, October 2019.
My first visit to Boston was one out of pure spontaneity and curiosity. I’ve experienced “big” cities before; Detroit, Grand Rapids, Chicago, etc.

Nothing really compares to Boston however. While there, the internal social utility within me continually attempted to compare Boston to a place I’ve been before. To no avail, I decided I would just give up and start embracing the newness that was before me.

The cobblestone and brick streets painted maps in my mind. Strolling through grassy parks that had people everywhere when there was nice weather, and even when there wasn’t. Coffee shops on every street, and compassion for human life within each set of passing eyes.

It takes time to run. Hell it takes time to walk. But one thing is for sure; Your mind has traveled far more than your feet. Keep that close.

It is often hard to walk through life dragging dread around. It can feel like a deadweight around your ankles or fatigue in your lungs. The simple fact is that we can just wear lighter shoes, or change our breathing techniques up, to cope with it. There isn’t a right or wrong, but there is something that’ll work for you. Find it.

There’s always something serene about an open road. The serenity surrounding that lies thick in the air and the silence as the world flies by.

It seems like the time on the road never lasts long enough, and before you know it, your time alone - is up.

You’re brought back to civilization when you reach your destination, only to be longing for an empty mind, and even less in your sight.
