I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and I’ve made a decision about how I’m going to handle children’s images on my photography page.
Effective immediately, I will no longer be posting identifiable images of children on my business page, even when I have a signed model release. I’ll also be going back through my page and removing the identifiable images of children that I’ve previously shared.
This isn’t because I don’t love sharing the moments I’ve been trusted to capture. I absolutely do. But the world we live in has changed, especially with what AI is capable of doing with images of real people.
The recent 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling involving privately possessed AI-generated CSAM was a huge reminder to me that our laws and technology are moving in ways that can create risks for children that simply didn’t exist before.
And honestly, I don’t want to wait until there’s a problem to decide that I should have done more.
I may be a small photography business, but I still have a responsibility to the families who trust me with their children’s images. If removing those images from my public page is one small thing I can do to protect them, then that’s what I’m going to do.
Will this affect my business?
Maybe.
But I’m okay with that.
I would rather make the decision that I believe is right for the families I serve than make the decision that is easiest for my business.
I want K.H. Photography to be a business that people can trust, not just with their memories, but with their privacy and their children.
The safety of children and the trust of my clients will always come before my business.
