ANNOUNCING: 2026 Fall Family Mini-Sessions in Irwin, PA!

It’s that time of year again: the days are getting shorter, temps are (finally) cooling down, everywhere you look you're beginning to see pumpkins..

And that means it's time for my annual fall mini session day!
These sessions are the perfect time to snag some updated photos of you and your spouse, maybe you’ve added a fur-baby or a (real) baby to your family since the last time we saw each other, or maybe you simply need some updated photos for your Christmas cards and to give as gifts – this is the PERFECT time to do that!

I know everyone says this: but summer has flown by in a blur - and August has flown by even faster than that (what's faster than a blur: a blink? a whiz? a flash? a rocket?)

Our August was filled with trips to Kennywood (as usual), VBS week at church, the Norwin Community Picnic (which was rudely interrupted by a CRAZY rain storm this year), and the start of school. AND, to top it all off, as the icing and cherry on top, we took our "big" yearly vacation in August (the videos from which I haven't even started to edit yet - the first week of September has been a beast, but we'll talk about that next month).

OH and if you look closely - you'll catch a peek into what Leander will be for Halloween this year at the end of the video (I found the costume at a kids' consignment sale and let's just say: I'm not sure who was happier - Leander or Derrick!) Halloween still feels so far off though and I'm determined to enjoy and soak in SEPTEMBER, before we roll into October!

UPDATE:
I am currently 24+ hours without power thanks to yesterday’s insane storms.

So, of course I posted the gallery update just a few hours before it all hit & I’ve been getting tons of messages, emails, and DMs about it (it’s so exciting to hear from all of you!!) but I have EXTREMELY limited capacity to respond to anything at the moment.

I’m not ignoring you, I promise!! I just have no power, no internet, and no way to get back to you all until those are restored.

Speaking of which: our current estimate of power restoration is Sunday at 11pm (serious- no joke!)

All that to say: hold tight!! I will get back to you as soon as I can (but in all likelihood, it’ll probably be Monday morning 🤦🏻‍♀️)

MAJOR UPDATE REGARDING YOUR PHOTO GALLERIES FROM ME:
Hi friends :)
So, I just found out that my ORIGINAL online photo gallery service (PASS) is officially going away forever.
I haven't used PASS in a VERY long time (over 5 years), but I did use the service for 10+ years prior (from about 2012-2021).

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU (if you have a PASS gallery from me?)
If I have photographed you (in any capacity) since 2019 - you (most likely) already have an updated gallery from me. I took a ton of time when I switched gallery companies to go back and update as many galleries as I could. I sent out emails explaining the switch and sharing new links.

>> If you have an UPDATED gallery from me (the link would start with: karaabbey.client-gallery) Those galleries are 100% safe, happy, accessible, and very much alive - you're good to go!

>> If you still have an OLD gallery from me (the link would start with: karaabbey.passgallery) THOSE are the galleries that are going to disappear at the end of October & we need to get you updated.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO:
•check the gallery links you have bookmarked from me - if they are old, reach out! I can easily create a new, updated gallery for you & bring your photos forward!

When I first talked with Lauren and Mike before their wedding, I had one of those “wait - WHAT?!” moments when Lauren told me she was originally from "a super small town in the middle-of-nowhere-Pennsylvania". I said: "I've lived in some middle-of-nowhere-Pennsylvania towns - where exactly are you from?" to which she replied: Wyalusing, Pennsylvania.

Mike is from the Pittsburgh area, where we live now, but Wyalusing is just a few miles down the road from Sayre - which is where Derrick and I lived for the first four years of our marriage. Of all the places in Pennsylvania for the two of them to meet and build a life together, somehow their story brought our paths together in the middle of all those connections. Talk about a small world!

Apparently, “I’ll travel anywhere for your wedding” includes the Universal Hollywood Hilton hotel.

We were staying at the hotel during our California trip, literally across the street from Universal Studios Hollywood, when I happened to look out the window from our room on the 20th floor -

- and there was a wedding happening below.

Of course I immediately grabbed my phone. Because wedding content creator brain never really turns off.

And honestly, this is one of my favorite things about what I do.

Your wedding doesn’t have to be in Pittsburgh. It doesn’t have to be somewhere I’ve worked before!

If you’re getting married somewhere you love, I’d love to be there to capture the little moments you might otherwise miss.

Yes, even if that means packing my bags and heading to California. ✈️

It's about preserving the moments that mattered so you can relive how they felt - long after the day is over.

Pittsburgh weather has a way of humbling everyone, including the app that's supposed to predict it.

I've been shooting weddings here since 2009, and I've learned not to trust a single forecast. Sunny mornings turn into downpours, rainy predictions turn into golden hour. There's no pattern to it, just Pittsburgh being Pittsburgh.

What I have learned is this: rain doesn't ruin a wedding day. It just gives it a different kind of story. Some of my favorite moments ever happened because a couple got caught in a sudden storm and just laughed through it instead of panicking.

So if you're planning a wedding here, don't stress over the forecast. Build in a little flex time, trust your vendor team to adapt, and know that the moments you'll remember most probably won't have anything to do with whether the sun was out.
