Some of my favorite shots taken from this weekend’s Take Flight 5K Run at Runway Park at Greenville Downtown Airport - GMU.

The Civil Air Patrol - Greenville Composite Squadron kicked the Take Flight 5K run off with a Memorial Day Tribute featuring a flag presentation, the playing of Taps, and a Fallen Comrade Table Ceremony.

It's an honor for my family to be a part of this amazing organization and I'm so proud of all the color guard cadets who worked hard to honor all those who fought and died to secure our freedoms.

Wishing you a happy and blessed New Year!

Schooldays were the happiest days, Now they seem so far away. I remember and I’ll always treasure Schooldays were the happiest days of your life But we never appreciate the good times we have Until it's too late. Now I wish I hadn't strayed, And I'd go back if I could only find a way. Those schooldays. –The Kinks

People close to me know that of all God’s creatures, spiders are my least favorite. Well actually its Scorpions, but spiders are up there in the top three. Despite my aversion to arachnids, there’s no denying the fact that I adore Spyderco. Granted their brand logo features a rather innocuous arthropod (just as the founder intended) so I don't mind having one on me most days.

Here’s a pair “climbing down their web” aren’t they adorable? I purchased this striking blue Delica used, in a local pawn shop and immediately fell in love with its quirky yet originative design. Once in hand, its proportions feel perfect and is right at home from the kitchen to the trail to anywhere. I loved it so much that I purchased a second purple one for my wife.

I guess in a way I’m facing my irrational insect fears by owning a knife with a spider logo on it. But I sure can't think of better treatment than flipping open of these Spyderco knives.

No knife collection is complete without the iconic Swiss Army Knife. My sister gifted me with this epic Victorinox Ranger camping knife that she purchased while on holiday in Switzerland. She also had my name engraved on its handle. Little did I know at the time it would be the best feature of this versatile “multi-tooled” knife.

One day, unbeknownst to me, it dropped out of my pocket while attending a bonfire with friends. Almost a year later to the date a friend handed me my long-lost knife stating that it was found in a field by a landscaper on their property. Were it not for my name engraved on its classic red ABS handle it would never have found its way back to me. Surprisingly its year-long exposure to the elements had little impact on its overall condition and I now keep it close and cherish its storied history and usefulness.

These amazing pocket knives are still manufactured in Switzerland, their country of origin, and have a rich history dating all the way back to the company’s original founding in 1884. The original Swiss Officer’s Knife was patented in 1897. U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe after WWII purchased many of them as souvenirs and due to their difficulty in pronouncing the German word for officer’s knife “Offiziersmesser” they dubbed it the “Swiss Army Knife.”
