By now, you have figured out that one of my favorite things to photograph is cultural events. I had the pleasure of attending a fun, intimate Diversity Day at LSU Health Shreveport this week. Photos were tough because of the number of people in a tight space but I managed a few. Mostly though, I enjoyed all the wonderfully diverse foods made by the doctors, students and staff of this terrific institution.

I had the pleasure of spending the morning at Akin's Nursery & Landscape recently for a client. It is a beautiful space with so many unique items for your home and garden. I encourage you to stop by there and take a look. Here are a few of the photos that I captured while there, including the adorable little boy and Santa that is my Cover Photo right now. He went from refusing to go anywhere near Santa to his parents having to drag him away.

The campus of Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport is temporary home for an exhibit of artwork by Icelandic sculptor Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir (Steinunn Þórarinsdóttir) titled "Borders." I love the tranquility of the campus and it's perfect for short walks and lovely natural spaces for meditation. These sculptural pieces seem right at home on the campus. I've shared some of my perspectives with the sculptures below.

“A dialogue between the viewer and the work is formed with a tactile and personal interaction as the figures occupy the same space as we do,” writes Thórarinsdóttir in an artist statement. “The viewer often feels the need to touch the sculptures and approach them. Due to the neutrality of the works and the fact that they are life size, the viewer experiences the possibility to interact, touch, and identify themselves with the sculptures.”

Aseana Foundation does a beautiful job bringing us cultural experiences during the year. This weekend was a celebration of Diwali and it truly was a Festival of Light. The light shown so brightly in the eyes of the performers as they breathed life into our community with the dances of their ancestors. Festival-goers enjoyed the sights, sounds and definitely the tastes of Asia. Here are a few moments that I managed to capture when I wasn't completely enthralled in the performances.

A favorite festival in our community each Spring is hosted by the Aseana Foundation showcasing the many Asiatic cultures represented here. It is vibrant with color and music, fabulous food and activities, something for the whole family. I love photographing local festivals!
