Senior year is a season of change, growth, and unforgettable moments. ๐ŸŒŸ

My outdoor senior portrait sessions are designed to feel relaxed and natural โ€” no stiff poses, no pressure. Just you, in your element, surrounded by the beauty and charm of New England.

These portraits arenโ€™t just about today. Theyโ€™re about capturing the spark of who you are right now โ€” a gift for your family to treasure and a memory youโ€™ll look back on for years to come.

๐Ÿ“ธ With limited spots available this season, now is the perfect time to reserve your session. Letโ€™s create portraits that feel as genuine and timeless as this milestone deserves.

(HELP! Need Bird ID ๐Ÿฆ) Singing on Joe Pye W**d
I always try to ID bird species before posting pictures, but this one has me stumped. I've run it through Merlin and Google Lens a few times, and have come up with different results which don't provide a clear match. Bobolink, Savannah Sparrow, Henslow's Sparrow, and more have all been suggested. Photo taken toward the end of July in a large grassland field in Groton, Massachusetts.

Song Sparrow with Mantis and Insect (ZOOM IN!)
This Song Sparrow must have picked up some take-out to bring home for dinner. While the mantis is easy to see, I was surprised to see the head of an insect sticking out of its beak after I saw the image on a larger screen.

Social Climbers
Bored on the StairMaster at the gym? These two walkers got their workout climbing a long set of stairs heading to the top of the Wachusett Reservoir Dam in Clinton, MA. Taken later in the day, the side light was hitting just each landing and the stair edges, creating a nice leading line up to the top.

Sugar Hill Lupines
Dating back to 1893, St. Matthew's Chapel in Sugar Hill, NH is an iconic location for photography, with a large field of lupines next to the building. Sugar Hill has several fields of lupines (blooming early to mid June each year) and hosts a Lupine Festival one weekend. I beat the crowds by visiting the week before the festival, and captured the beautiful spiked blossoms with white chapel behind.

Kinsman Falls, Franconia Notch State Park
The Basin-Cascade Trail in Franconia Notch State Park offer those who venture uphill past the tourist crowds at The Basin an amazing series of cascades and waterfalls. One of the larger waterfalls along the trail is Kinsman Falls, tumbling 20 feet into a swimmable pool, a perfect spot to rest and relax along the trail.

Landing Gear: Check!
The bees were busy on this July evening, and they appeared to glow with the backlighting. I caught this bumblebee in flight as it prepared to land on a beebalm flower.

Open Wide, Swallow
I forgot my bug repellent on a recent visit to Bolton Flats, and the mosquitoes were out in force. Unlucky for me, but a banquet for several tree swallows feeding over the fields. It's hard enough to track these birds in flight with your eye, as they fly fast and make sudden, acrobatic turns to snag a snack mid-air. It's even harder to track them through the narrow view of a camera lens, and I came away with mostly missed shots.

But this one shot made all of the misses and bug bites worth it. I was lucky to catch this male tree swallow as he prepares to gulp down a flying insect. I was tracking the fast-moving bird and my shutter speed was slower than it should have been, so the insect ends up appearing as a small streak, which I ended up liking since it give a sense of the speed and points right toward the swallow's open mouth.

December Tree
I wasn't looking for this image--it found me. The bare limbs of this tree, echoed by others nearby, and reflected to form a hexagonal shape, caught my eye and I knew I had to capture it. Easier said than done...

To get the shot framed as I wanted it, I had to shuffle along a tree that had fallen into the river, set up my tripod in the water, adjust the settings, and click the shutter, all without falling into the water. Miraculously, it all worked out.

This image and others are part of my Echoes of Nature: Light, Form, and Verse exhibit at the Groton Public Library MA through July 12, 2025.
