I just came across a studio session planning tool called "Set.A.Light" that I wish I had 15 years ago when I started Studio One Pensacola. This amazing software product allows you to define the dimensions of a virtual or actual studio or outdoor location and populate it with 3d versions of cameras, lights, models, props, furniture, and more. It's all in 3D, and you can modify the characteristics of each object.
I work remotely from my home office/studio, and my shoot location can vary significantly worldwide. With "Set.A.Light", I only need the approximate dimensions and a few snapshots of the set. These should show the location of doors, windows, equipment, and furniture. I use this information to simulate the set on my computer with 3D versions of the objects, allowing me to plan a shoot before the session. I then send the resulting shoot list diagrams to the model or client so the set is ready when I log on to the session. There is a huge community of users who post complete setups for searching and downloading for free. Be sure to check it out!
