Little Sunshine Portraits

There are only so many Christmases when they’re this little.
When the season feels extra special.
When finding their name on the Nice List is VERY important business.
When they have questions that apparently only Santa himself is qualified to answer. 😂

When a cookie, a new little friend from the North Pole, and a “snowball” fight can make an already awesome day even better.

And then another Christmas passes.
They get a little bigger. A little braver. The things they whisper to Santa change.

And somehow, year by year, all of those little Christmas moments become their childhood.

That’s what I want the Santa Experience to be for your children, not just somewhere they went to take a portrait with Santa. I want it to be something they remember as part of what Christmas felt like when they were little.

And tonight, we get to begin another year of it.

This was him last Christmas.

Then rewind one year before...And then another...And another.

Until suddenly you're looking at four Christmas memories and wondering how that tiny little boy grew up quite so quickly. 🥹

But what I love most about looking through these isn't just seeing how much he's changed. It's knowing that somewhere along the way, this became part of his Christmas.

He knows there's a cookie waiting for him when he's finished because, obviously, there must be cookies.

He knows he'll get to search the Official Nice List for his name and choose a new little friend to bring home from the North Pole.

He knows what happens here because he's done it before. And THAT is exactly what I hoped for when I created the Santa Experience five years ago.

I didn't want it to be somewhere you brought your children once for a Santa portrait.
I wanted it to be something they looked forward to.

Something that became woven into their Christmas season.
Something that, years from now, they'll be able to look back on and see themselves growing up Christmas by Christmas.

Because that's the funny thing about traditions.
While you're living them, they can feel like such little things.
And then one day, you realize the little things were actually the big things.

The 5th Annual Santa Experience is November 6 + 7 in Gulfport, MS.

Booking opens August 25, with Nice List families receiving access before public booking. Join the Nice List here: littlesunshinephoto.com/santa 🎄

5-14 days old is definitely the ideal sweet spot for newborn portraits.

But babies don’t always read the calendar, and the postpartum season looks different for everyone. 🤍

Sometimes recovery takes longer than expected. Sometimes those first few weeks are a blur of feeding and sleeping and figuring out this brand new little person. Sometimes you meant to book while you were pregnant…and then suddenly you look down and your baby is six weeks old.

This sweet girl was right around six weeks when I photographed her.

Still tiny. Still sleepy. Still curling those little legs up underneath her. Still very much in that fleeting newborn chapter.

While I typically photograph newborns between 5–14 days old because it gives us the best opportunity for those sleepy, curled-up newborn portraits, **I consider babies newborns through about 8 weeks old.**

So if you’re holding a 4, 5, 6, or even 7-week-old baby and thinking, *Did I wait too long?*

You didn’t.

We may photograph your baby a little differently than I would at ten days old. And honestly, I love the little glimpses of personality and eye contact that sometimes come with those extra weeks.

There is still so much of this chapter worth remembering.

There are some moments that are simply beautiful to experience in motion.

Those tiny little newborn coos and grunts.

The slow rise and fall of their belly and chest as they breathe.

The little uncoordinated kicks that seem to happen for no reason.

The gentle squirms as they settle back to sleep.

Over the last few months, I've been slowly weaving short films into my newborn sessions. They're a beautiful way to preserve the moments that can't be frozen in a single frame.

For now, these short films are included for my Baby Story families.

The Baby Story is my signature first-year portrait experience for families along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, documenting your baby's story from those very first days through the milestones of their first year. When you look back years from now, you'll have more than individual portraits. You'll have the story of how they grew.

I'm excited to keep growing this part of the experience because these little moments deserve to be remembered, too.

Christmas has a funny way of making us sit with the fact that somehow another year has flown by.

Somewhere between packing away the ornaments and pulling them back out again, they've grown.

Their smile looks a little different.

Their face has changed just enough that you notice it.

And suddenly you find yourself wondering, "How did another year go by already?"

This year marks our 5th Annual Santa Experience, and I couldn't be more excited to welcome so many familiar faces back into the studio and to meet some new ones, too.

Whether this will be your first visit or your fifth, thank you for letting me help preserve another chapter of your family's Christmas story.

Christmas is making its way back to Little Sunshine.

And I can't wait to share what's coming. ❤️🎄
Booking will open at the end of August, so stay tuned.

Those gummy smiles get me every single time because the truth is, there are only so many days that look like this.

The chapter where:
- their giggles come easily
- they lay and play with their chubby little feet that haven't taken their first steps yet
- they're rolling over but haven't quite started crawling just yet
- they look at you like you are their favorite person in the world

One of my favorite parts of milestone portraits isn’t just documenting these changes. It’s watching mommas have the mental space to actually be there to soak them in.

A full service experience frees you up to soak in the smiles and cherish the chubby cuddles, being fully present for the moment.

And years from now, when the gummy smile is long gone, you’ll still have this chapter to hold onto.

It's the tiny details of their freshness that we have the hardest time remembering.

The way they had the slightest tint of red in their feathery hair when the sunlight caught it.

The way their little ears are still softly folded in reminding you how delicate they are.

The perfect little wrinkles on their feet that created those kicks you treasured for months.

That tiny hand that relaxes so sweetly when they're content and those delicious arm creases on their tender squishy skin.

These will always be part of what I document in your newborn's portraits because they'll remind you just how amazing it was to soak in those first few weeks with your little miracle.

There’s something special about watching a group of mothers slow down long enough to step into their own story for a moment.

This year’s Celebrating Motherhood event brought eleven mommas into my studio, each in a completely different chapter of motherhood. Some are rocking babies to sleep. Some are chasing toddlers full of endless energy. Some are already watching their children stretch toward independence little by little and even watching their own baby become momma.

And somehow, every season always feels both fleeting and full all at once.

I’m incredibly thankful these moms allowed me to celebrate them and preserve this season for their families.

Honoring motherhood has always been at the very heart of what I do. Not just documenting what this season looked like, but preserving the feeling of it. The way your child reachs for you. The softness of holding them close. The small expressions and connections that become part of your family’s story without you even realizing it at the time.

Mother’s Day always reminds me why this work matters so deeply to me. One day these portraits will become reminders not only of how motherhood looked but more importantly of how deeply they were loved inside of it.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers carrying so much beauty into the lives around them every single day.
