Same moment, two lenses — here’s how I actually shoot a wedding day to capture maximum variety within every gallery.
I dual-shoot with the 85mm f/1.2 on one hip and the 28-70mm f/2 on the other (shoutout to my Spider Holster for changing the game and saving my neck and shoulders). The 28-70 tells the bigger story — wide, in context, and I reach for it any time I need to be 100% certain I get motion in crisp focus. The 85 is my favorite lens of all time for portraits — tight, creamy backgrounds, and nothing distracting from the subject.
The honest trade-off is the weight, especially once you add a flash at receptions. But having both gives me the highest degree of versatility in how I’m able to capture the people and events in front of me.
(Also, as a disclaimer, I’m a Canon USA girly but Nikon and Sony make comparable lenses for achieving the same goals!)
Which frame would you deliver first — the wide story, or the creamy portrait? 👇
