I began my Camino in Porto on June 1st beneath the glow of a beautiful Blue Moon.

Yesterday brought another unforgettable moment—a breathtaking sunset just south of Mindelo. What made it especially rare was that summer clouds often obscure the horizon before the sun can fully set. This time, however, the sky cleared just enough to reveal the entire spectacle.

As a photographer, I’ve learned that timing, patience, and a little luck all play a role. Yet moments like this are a gentle reminder of how fortunate we are when we slow down and truly take notice.

The Camino is teaching me that each day brings its own gift. Sometimes it’s a meaningful conversation, sometimes a valuable lesson, and sometimes it’s simply the experience of watching the sun sink into the Atlantic Ocean.

Buen Camino. 🌅🙏

The Photographer’s Lesson

These two photos were taken from the same spot.

The first image focuses on what caught my attention: the waves crashing against the rocks. The second shows the entire scene.

As photographers, we often think we need to capture everything. But many times, the strongest image comes from focusing on the one thing that truly matters.

I believe life works the same way.

When we try to take in everything at once, the essence can get lost in the noise. But when we become fully present and focus on what is right in front of us, something beautiful happens. The mind becomes quiet. The moment becomes alive.

In that stillness, we reconnect with ourselves, with nature, and perhaps with something greater than ourselves.

Sometimes the art is not in seeing more.

Sometimes the art is in seeing what truly matters.

After sightseeing, it was time for the real cultural experience: the food.

First up: the legendary Francesinha. Think grilled cheese turned heavyweight champion—layers of bread and meat, covered in melted cheese and drenched in a rich sauce. Calling it a sandwich barely does it justice.

Later, I had grilled octopus, which was incredible and somehow left me ready for more.

A quick recovery break in the park was essential before the next challenge: an ocean swim. Nothing says balance like alternating between giant meals and a dip in the Atlantic.

My first day in Porto has been nothing short of spectacular.

These photos were taken at the historic SĂ© do Porto (Porto Cathedral) and around the iconic Dom LuĂs I Bridge, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

A few interesting facts:

* The Porto Cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is one of Portugal’s oldest and most important monuments.
* The Dom Luís I Bridge was completed in 1886 and was designed by Théophile Seyrig, a former business partner of Gustave Eiffel, the engineer behind the Eiffel Tower.
* The bridge’s impressive iron arch was the largest of its kind in the world at the time it was built.

Standing atop the cathedral, looking over Porto and the Douro River, it’s easy to understand why this city is considered one of Europe’s hidden gems.

On this second full moon of May, I begin my Camino.

With gratitude in my heart and anticipation for the journey ahead,
I step onto the path with an open spirit.

Leaving behind what no longer serves me,
I move forward with trust, curiosity, and grace.

One step at a time.
One day at a time.
One moment fully lived.

Beneath the glow of the full moon,
I welcome the lessons, connections, and memories waiting to unfold.

280 kilometers.
Endless discoveries.
A grateful heart.

Buen Camino. đŸŒ•đŸ„ŸđŸš
