On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Hanover Area Fire & Rescue came together with the community to remember Hanover Borough Fire Commissioner James Roth at the Clover Lane firehouse.

In front of the station, the aerials of Hanover's Tower 79 and Gettysburg's Truck 1 were crossed. Roth, the grandson of a Gettysburg fire chief, began his career as a junior firefighter in Gettysburg in the late 1950s, then went on to serve as a career firefighter in Hanover Borough, where he was named Commissioner in 1978. He gave 43 years of service to the Hanover community, and was fundamental in the evolution of the area fire service.

At the end of the service, Roth was given one final ride in the retired Hanover Borough Engine 46-2, a 1970 American LaFrance, during a procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Images taken by request of Roth family, images shared with their approval.
