I've been planning on going down to the Duxbury bridge to capture a sunrise. It's been closed to enforce social distancing. So I went through some of my iPhone photos and found a shot from an overcast afternoon. PRESTO!

Introducing informal portraits.

There’s a time and place to get a well-shot formal family portrait. But there are many more times and places to get images that capture your family’s true essence.

The group of images below is a perfect example:

Lizzy lit up naturally when she looked up and noticed I was shooting her playfully climbing the lattice.

Slightly to the left, Jen was joyfully tossing Weston in the air—probably trying to keep them both warm in the 28° cold. They didn’t even know I was shooting.

The bottom shot was taken as the family was heading back to their van. For all they knew, the shoot was over. As RJ came to the steps, Jen’s hand reached out to steady and assure him. The look on RJ’s face is priceless and real.

Sincerely,
Dana Edwards

Real life isn't posed.
It doesn't force a smile for the camera.
There are no strobes, props
or painted backdrops.

Real life is organic.
It just happens.
And it happens best when you're
doing what you love
with the people you love.
And that’s what I love to photograph.

So invite me to your next party.
Your kid's event or game.
A trip to the beach in summer,
apple picking in the fall
or sledding in the winter.
Or anywhere you enjoy your real life.
I guarantee you'll be thrilled with
the memories I capture.

Sincerely,
Dana Edwards

Below are some of my favorite shots. The human face and form are amazing. When you capture somebody unposed and unguarded, you can see who they really are. I hope, as you look through the images, you see the value in what I describe as informal portraits.
Sincerely,
Dana Edwards
