What's an editing/shooting photography style do you want ideas on how to achieve?

I'm by no means an expert on all styles, but I have played around with shooting and editing styles that I may be able to give a clue or two.

I'll let you know what tools I know of for each (regardless of if they are mine), and any differences in shooting approach I would use โ˜บ๏ธ

Also, if you are a potential client, know that I'm happy to do any of these variations for your session. Not all of these will be possible at every session (and if no preference is stated, I tend to aim towards what I think suits the session the best)

The prompt: A Wes Anderson/vintage inspired fair photoshoot, but keep the posing organic and natural

Is there a more visually chaotic environment than a fair?

Well, probably ๐Ÿ˜… But none immediately come to mind!

So what did I look for when composing these? ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŽ Light, as always. I tried to orient myself to have most of these have front or front-side light, as that's my absolute favorite for getting extremely vibrant full sun colors. But I did do some with backlight if the backdrop called for it.

๐Ÿ‹ Backdrops that read as timeless or vintage- I avoided merchandise stands or any area with a lot of text or modern advertising

๐Ÿ‹โ€๐ŸŸฉ Leading lines and framing- in a chaotic environment, these cues can have a huge impact on how the viewer's eye

๐Ÿ‰ Emotion- we will always orient ourselves to the human element in the frame. I wanted the emotion to carry weight for these.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚Round two, because one post of Vermont fall favorite photos was just entirely insufficient๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

The raw file is the canvas,
the digital foundation,
the basics of form and light and shape.

But the mood, and what you felt in that moment?

That often needs to be painted back in.

Unlikely things that may make you a better photographer:

๐Ÿ“š 1. Nerding out with reading books:

Narrative development is something that becomes instinctual the more you read- and that instinct will also help you tell stories in real time with your camera.

๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ2. Going for walks in nature: (especially if you use the time to notice lighting and small details).

Just spending time out in natural settings gives you more ideas of what you find beautiful and helps you find locations and inspiration.

โšก๏ธ 3. Being a homebody introvert:

Artistry demands time to develop. Having the desire to hyperfocus on art, time to innovate, it helps to like spending lots of time by yourself. It can be a major advantage.

And hey, even if none of those help your photography, they are still pretty awesome in their own right (in my book anyways) ๐Ÿ™ƒ

It's okay if you want your family photos to reflect your real life.

It's okay if you want to trade in perfect smiles for silliness and the huge cascade of actual emotions kids experience in an hour together.

It's okay if you want to trade in earth tone outfits for the princess dresses they never want to take off.

It's okay if you want to trade in dramatic mountainscapes for the details of your own home that even if they have imperfections, will be written forever in the story of your heart.

Because years down the road, see all of that realness, the record of what your life felt like then?

โœจIt will be far, far more than okay. โœจ
